Description: Set inside the historic George Hotel in Margate, The Ambrette is a unique blend of English nostalgia and Eastern spice. The restaurant itself is relaxed and welcoming perfect for mid-week lunches and cosy dinner dates. The chefs at The Ambrette use the best seasonal Kentish produce available, including fresh fish and seafood from Broadstairs, vegetables from Ramsgate and meat from local farms and butchers. To ensure that every dish is authentic and full of flavour, their herbs and spices are imported directly from India. We recommend the Bengali-style sea bass; the grilled rack of lamb with Kashmiri spices; and the delicious tiger prawns in a fragrant spicy coconut sauce. The flawless service and tempting dessert menu guarantee youll be back more than once.

The Ambrette is tucked away in Margates Old Town and I understand why a Michelin star is just beyond their reach. It's not the food my God it's not. The careful and beautiful execution is really lovely and after eating here on several occasions it's always absolutely devine. If you are looking for a special meal served beautifully leaving your... We were looking forwards to this dinner, and we were a little bit disappointed. As mentioned in some previous comments, the food is lacking spicy finesse, the service and the decor are not worth a one-star Michelin. More

Loved the idea of taking Indian cooking away from your average takeaway and giving it a culinary twist. The starter was definitely that and the menu was interestingly varied. My main however (a coconut prawn curry) was a bit closer to average takeaway food, just rearranged on a fancy plate. Was saved from 3 stars by the little taster dishes... More

Not an indian restaurant, but a top class restaurant with an asian flair. Not a curry in sight, but the coriander infused chicken starter is amazing, although steer clear of the dessert wine, it's vile. However, a hidden gem in Margate. More

Wonderful indian food with a difference. The food and ambience are second to none. This is like no other indian restaurant and is more a good quality restaurant serving food with indian spices than a tradtional indian restaurants in the UK. Highly recommended. More

After a lovely walk to the restaurant, we were warmly welcomed with an appetiser whilst we ordered our meal. We enjoyed a bottle of Temperillo Rioja with calves liver and a mackerill special followed by a delicious lamb and Gressingaham duck. We always enjoy our meal at this special place and have done so since its inauguration. The staff are... More

We have visited here many times now and it is truly amazing. The food is delicious beyond belief, better than anything i have tasted in a while. You can't miss out on the calf's liver for starter or perhaps the squid, two of mine and my family's favourites. The vegetarian thali is to die for, especially when it comes with... More

Visited this restaurant on 24th March and had a wonderful evening. Service was good, staff efficient and polite and the food delicious. The added bonus was that it wasn' overly expensive. I am not a great Indian food fan but I wouldn't hesitate to go back here. It ticked all my boxes pity I live so far away. More

Was surprised by standard of food.Excellent value fixed price lunch Can recommend' clarisse'-a sort of catfish for starters,-followed by the pork. Our time was limited so had no time for dessert. The fixed price menu included an amuse and a between course cup of yellow lentil soup.Great service and value for money. We hadn't made a reservation and were lucky to get... More
