It is a great shame because it was such a good place to eat, but the business is closed because the owner has retired. She did try to sell it as a going concern, but the purchaser pulled out at the last moment. It is a great loss to Thirsk as the food was always excellent

Came across this lovely Bistro purely by chance. As we were walking by the lane, noticed a sign for the Bistro, just so happened by boyfriend is called Charles...thought this was a good omen! It got even better when he noticed steak pie was on the menu, we just couldn't not try it. We were delighted we did, he says... More

We visited this little place last week after walking past so many times on the way to our usual place to eat, The black Lion. However after saying we should try it for so long we decided to give it a go. I booked a table, and frankly, there was no need to as we were the only ones it... More

excellent food, excellent prices and lovely staff who provide and excellent service. Found this little bistro by chance as it was tucked away in an alley but so glad we did, had a 3 course meal for 2 with soft drinks and paid just £34. Highly recommended

Visited mid September 2012, and thought what a lovely little bistro. The food was excellent and was great value. Such a shame the owner is retiring. Her last night is 31st December, would definitely recommend a visit before she goes.

Been to Charles Bistro a few times, and always enjoyed it, the food is cooked fresh and always excellent with good friendly service. Really sad to hear the current owner and chef will be retiring soon (New Year), so will be popping in as much as possible.

The offer is two courses for £10.99 which is really good value. There is a very varied menu which should suit most tastes. The tomato soup was one of the nicest I've ever had, and the food in general was very good. Just watch out for the drinks - half a lager cost £3.25.

I visited this restaurant with hubby & friends as part of a weekend away in Thirsk. It wasn't the best place we've ever been to but was still a pleasant experience and we would pay it another visit if we were in the area. The service was ok and the food was tasty enough. It's down a little alley, give... More
