Going to the Pickled Onion is a true delight. I live in Merida and love to drive out there to eat and spend the night. Valerie Pickles has created a real paradise for people who want to get away and relax. The food is consistently good and the cold avocado soup fabulous.
Being close to the ruins of Uxmal, Kabah,...

the restaurant of the pickeld onion was recommended by our B&B in Santa Elena. One thing is for sure: the food there is really great. I regret we only ate there 1 evening in stead of the 2 nights. The food is a lot better then in Ticul. Prices are really fare and Valerie is a great host. We asked...

We had lunch at the Pickled Onion a couple of years ago while visiting the area ruins. We were delighted with the unique decor, good food, excellent beer and pleasant conversation with the owner, Valerie Pickles. We resolved to return - and this December, we abandoned our Cancun beachfront resort to come stay with Valerie at the Pickled Onion, and...

Went here for lunch after visiting the Eco-Museo de Cacao. Food was very good! Avocado soup, soap Azteca, chimichanga and a BLT(great bread and real bacon!)
Service very good
Perhaps a bit expensive for what it was ($50 USD for 5 soups, 1 BLT and chimichanga and 5 sodas) but I'd go back!
Place looks cute to stay at too!

Good location on 261 and the food was tasty and well prepared and presented. The owner Valerie is very kind and helpful. Found the prices a bit steep as compared to similar cuisine found in Merida.

Thank you for your comments on trip advisor they are really appreciated.
I do however have to make a comment regarding pricing here at the pickled onion.
If you visit the Uxmal area restuarants or Ochil or Temozon you will find prices much higher than they are here. One has to take into consideration the location of my restaurant and the...

Lots of people have already rated this as "Excellent" and they have my agreement.
We chanced upon The Pickled Onion having no fixed idea for lunch with three hot & bothered children who we had just forced up pyramids by the use of pointy sticks. Cold drinks were quickly proffered and the girls got their dearest wishes at that moment...

A large menu with fair prices. All meals were under 100 pesos. Everything was good.
