My favorite item on the menu is the seafood or clam chowder whichever is available. The burgers are all right with many variety offered. The one thing I have noticed lately is that the service has really declined. I know just go for the chowder if I'm really in the mood. More

Was surprised at how average the food was considering the build-up. The menu was somewhat dirty, but other than that this place was acceptable if not exceptional. Neither the burgers nor seasoned waffle fries nor the pastrami sandwich would make this a place to go out of one's way for. More

The Rusty Hammer boasts it serves the best burger in Portsmouth. It may just have the best burger. There are many creative choices and you can also create your own. The Pastrami Sandwich would disappoint any New Yorker or anyone who has ever been to NYC for a Pastrami sandwich. More

Three day weekend Saturday. Staff was completely overwhelmed. Watched plate after plate sit at heat lamp. Food was not hot, but it was good. More

Just ate at the Rusty Hammer this past week with a number of friends. The Hammer is pretty well known for their burgers and they didn't disappoint. The burgers are good sized patties with a number of varieties and options that will have you going back multiple times. While there is nothing terribly gourmet or exotic, the food is cooked... More

Having lived in Seacoast New Hampshire my entire life, I am very blessed, as it is a wonderful area of New England to live in. Portsmouth, NH is bulging at the seams with restaurants. Many of these "high end" places end up not making it, due to sheer competition. The Rusty Hammer is not one of these. THe Rusty Hammer... More

New to the area I thought I would give it a try. The food was just ok. The chips with the guacamole were burnt very bad and the burger we ordered med well was very pink. Overall nothing special but would be nice to go on a cold winter night and have a couple beers with friends. More

Our hotel suggested this location and they were right to do so. Loved our burgers. Great location as well. Downtown Portsmouth is quite cool. Would eat there again in a heartbeat. More

I only place a review of a place if I like it - generally. We stumbled upon this when we were walking through Psmouth. We went on a busy Sunday and had a wonderful experience. The food was great. My steak and cheese was the best that I've had. Real steak, cheese on a long roll - under 7 bucks.... More
