The reviews do not do this place justice. I felt like I was visiting a friend's home for dinner. Wim & Phillip were delightful hosts & their home was a reflection of their passion for food & life. We had the rijstafel (but truly apologise that we could not stay for dessert as one our friends became terribly ill that... More

It took forever and a half to reach The Sawah, located in a village on the outskirts of Yogyakarta. (That owed partially to the traffic.) It was a set dinner that felt nothing like a restaurant, and a lot like having a home-cooked meal. If you like private ambiance and the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, then... More

We were a bit confused what to choose for our menu, there are so many mouth watering choices to choose from. Since we are from Indonesia, we wanted to try other country's special dishes. The food prepared by Philip was amazing and Wim showed us around the house after our dinner. We totally loved the experience, and will come back... More

This review is not negative at all, but... it does NOT refer to our place. We are SOUTH of Yogya and this review mentions a place in the NORTH of the city. That restaurant is called SAWA, we are theSawah. Confusing, indeed, but we cannot change it. Guests who come to our place should ask their taxi driver explicitely to... More

The trip to The Sawah is not as bad as we thought it would, it was even a pleasant one. Arrival at the rustic house was greeted by both Wim and Phillip. Wim accompanied us while Phillip prepared the lunch. The lunch ( Indonesian set lunch ) was ready before we knew it. Had the most amazing Ayam Bakar a... More

If you want to try Indonesian home cooking, The Sawah is the right place for you to go.. As their motto, not a restaurant but a place to eat.. That's exactly right. I recommend their rijstafel (Dutch name for full table course, it's a very full table for sure), a very delicate soto ayam for starter (best soto ayam ever)... More

This place is stunningly gorgeous! Imagine having your dream foodie- dinner prepared by locals. Add in inspired architecture and interior design, fabulous art, a lush water garden, and sprinkle in the warmest hospitality available in Yogyakarta and you've got the idea. I can't say enough about the quality of the sambal, the fine herbal teas, and the exquisite variety of... More

I had no idea that our 'best-kept' secret has become #1 of Tripadvisor list! Privately secluded in the middle of rice fields outside Yogyakarta, The Sawah holds a promise that dining should be personal, intimate and warm at heart. Where else to have such kind of experience except home (especially a beautifully designed tropical house like Wim & Phillip own!)... More

The best indonesian food we had in our 10 days in Indonesia. Wim and Phillip do a great job. Definitely somewhere we will revisit when next in Jogja.

I enjoyed a wonderful and memorable evening at The Sawah. The food was delectable, the Hosts convivial and engaging. Definitely one of the top Restaurants in the area. Will return the next time we visit here.
