Description: Built before the Civil War and completely remodeled in 1936 by the Cal Milam family, the Merrick Inn served as the manor house for one of Lexington"s finest horse farms. It was here at Merrick Place, that Milam and his groom, Mr. Johnson, trained the fabled "Exterminator", Kentucky Derby winner of 1918. Here also, "Tut Tut", Komuraski, Commodore, Brown Wisdom, Miss Joy, Milkmaid, McKee and Dust Flower started on their paths to fame and fortune. None of these, however, gained such widespread fame as Merrick himself. Merrick finished in the money 157 times, winning 62 races. Merrick became a member of the Milam family not only because of his success at the races, but also because he was "worthy in deeds and noble in character". The Merrick Inn has been owned and operated by the Murray family for nearly 40 years. Offering the finest in traditional southern dining and innovative specials. Times have changed, but we believe the beauty and charm of our inn remain the same.

This cozy and historic Lexington landmark presents excellent southern fare. The Southern fried chicken is a "must have". The staff is courteous and knowledgable. Don't miss it!

Wife and I ate there for dinner. Nice inside. Located in the back of an apartment complex--strange. Wife had fried chicken, cheesy grits and green beans. All three very good. I gad pork tenderloin w/apple chutney--excellent. Plain baked potatoe and green beans. Excellent yeast rolls--one only. Had butterscotch pie for dessert--expensive(6.50/slice)and fair to poor taste. Service was good, but at... More

This restaurant is a part of the history of Lexington. The food, service, atmosphere and location are all top shelf. There is a warming charm and ambiance when you arrive here. The parking is limited, so you are better to valet park and enjoy your time without having to worry about it. They have a wide selection of beverages, foods... More

The Merrick Inn is a lovely, and excellent Restaurant. From the first rate service to the delicious food and beautiful decorations, you cannot go wrong. I had an amazingly nice server named Angie who shared the back room with another woman and they were fabulous. Angie helped me choose the special twin medallions of Filet in a mushroom sauce with... The ambiance at the Merrick Inn is nothing short of delightful...a step back in time. We arrived at the height of Kentucky Derby mania, with crowds waiting to dine. Yet the waitress treated us as if we were the only customers she had. We were never rushed and she spent time explaining the menu and allowing us to split appetizers... More

We caught a few races at Keeneland and my Step father asked a local for best dinner place. He said fried chicken at Merrick Inn but no reservations needed. We arrived at the rather strange location (inside a suburban development but an old estate) and realized yes we needed reservations. We were told our best hope of a table was... More

I usually know what I am going to have when I go to Merrick Inn. The other night I ordered the special with sirloin tips and marcala. I think they mislabled the main ingredient; the sirloin was as tender as a filet. The flavor was out of this world! This is only the second time I have ordered a special... More

We live in Chicago and the Merrick Inn in Lexington is our favorite restaurant. We are in Lexington a couple of times a year and it is near the top of our "to do" list every time we visit. Great food, great service, great atmosphere and the prices are reasonable. One warning--If you are in Lexington when Keeneland Race Course... More

this was our first time to this restaurant and i must say .... it was the best we have experienced in a long long time. We were greeting with a warm welcome at the front door and was seated in a comfortable and inviting smaller room. We were approach by a wonderful and spunky server (kristin) who had the background... I wanted to unique setting in an old historic Kentucky home, delivered truly southern fried chicken and we got it here. Seating is both outdoor and inside free valet service and a good value
