Fresh, wonderful food in a nice location on 42nd street. Be advised though, get there earlier than you want. It fills up quickly. The bread is also fantastic - I've been searching for a good French bakery here and I finally found my match.

My favorite meal at La Mie Bakery is a Turkey Avocado Swiss sandwich with a greek side salad. We always come here whenever we are in Des Moines for the pastries (especially the cherry Danish). This time we also had breakfast--I had a wonderful asparagus omelet. Highly recommend, though the process of ordering food is chaotic the quality is worth it.

It's a bakery and restaurant - be prepared to wait in line to order. It was very crowded, stood in line to order for at least 15 minutes and then had to search for a table. This bakery is amazing! The pastries and breads are to die for. Also, they have a very unique selection of dishes, from quiche to sandwiches. Everything tasts so fresh, flavorful and delicious this is one of my favorite spots when I visit Des Moines.
