Wow that is a huge place. The food was great. We enjoyed the huge buffet of all fresh foods. We ate the great chicken they are so well known for and it was delicious. Will attend there again next year when we come back to Shippshewanna.

I am local to the Essenhaus, so we normally only go when we have out of town guests to entertain. Had broasted chicken and my husband had beef and noodles dinners. Everything tasted very good. We then split a slice of peanut butter pie which was awesome.

Outside of the restaurant is a map of the area and it shows a horseshoe pit and invites guests to pitch a few horseshoes. My son in law and I went in search of it , but could never find it. We asked a buggy driver and a desk clerk at the hotel and they didn't know where it was.

After experiencing so much great food in this area, we were looking forward to eating here and expected it to be very good. Comparatively, it was just mediocre and it turned out to be the only place we regretted choosing during our trip. The food was just o.k., nothing special, wanting for more flavor. Very limited choice of dessert -... More

It's been a while since I've been to the Essenhaus and I suppose the memory of the restaurant was more than the restaurant could live up to because this isn't the Essenhaus I remember from years ago. My wife and I chose the family-style dining and ordered chicken and roast beef. While the meats were delicious and juicy, the rest... More

We have been talking about going to this restaurant the next time we traveled through this area. Well, don't put it off! This was such a great treat and our service was impeccable. (Our server, Elma, had been with Essenhaus for 28 years, and she was awesome. By the way, she's not even the senior server). The food was very... More
