Took my mother, step father and daugters family to Trace Inn for her 79th Birthday Sunday 3/18/13, we were the first to arrive and looking forward the good food, atmosphere and the dining experience at the Inn overlooking the lake. As they opened we were graciously seated to accommodate our group of 10. Waitress took our drink order, brought our... More

The views are remarkable year-round. The service is often slow and orders are incorrect. The people are usually pretty friendly, though.

Located in REd Hills State Park, on a lake, the Trace Inn's quiet beauty is a real treat. There are walking paths nearby, and in fall you can harvest persimmons (a wild fruit) really close to the restaurant. The food in my opinion is average, but the scenic location is worth a trip.

Eat here a lot with friends and family, the service is always fast and the food always good. They have great fried chicken and fried catfish, But if you just want a sandwich they have lots to choose from. The big catch is a huge fish sandwich, or just a ham and cheese they are all good . The view... More

The grounds and lake by the Trace Inn help to make this an interesting place to eat. Like to go there in the Fall when leaves are changing.

Chicken was bland. My son enjoyed it though, wife and I thought I could have made better chicken. Really no taste to the chicken at all.

This area of Illinois does not have many state parks, and is one of the few which has a restaurant. It is a destination for lunch and dinner for many who live within 30-45 minutes from Red Hill State Park located between Olney and Lawrenceville, IL on Rt. 50. It's especially pretty to go in the fall when the trees... More

The Trace Inn is located in Red Hills State Park off of Hwy 50. The food is decent, the atmosphere is unique, & the surroundings are beautiful to look at. They have a variety of menu items & some things that are unique. I usually take clients to this restaurant.

We gathered for a family reunion and were warmly greeted. The menu is extensive and the food was quite good. They might improve on the "presentation" of the food to match the setting by the lake. We will return to the area in late September and will definitely dine at the Trace Inn at least once.

The Trace Inn is known in the area for their catfish dinners...always done well. All other dishes we've tried have also been done well...and the view at Red Hills State Park just adds to the meal. Sometimes the service can be slow, but the servers are always friendly.
