Make sure you have full pockets - but a thoroughly enjoyable meal from beginning to end. Needs a little more non fish based items.

Visited the Mad Hatter in May for perhaps the 20th time over the past ten plus years - always an excellent meal and certainly the closest to "fine dining" to be found on Sanibel or Captiva. The island's eateries are not renowned for "michelin" standards although most restaurants are good quality, but for many quantity is more important than finess...

A truly great dining experience with wonderful food and attentive service. We were there on a Wednesday night and it was crowded. I would recommend a reservation. I was served the biggest shrimp I ever saw. A fun and delicious dinner
I loved the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and delicious. My compliments to the Chef! The tables were too close together because the Restaurant is small, but the view was breathtaking! A wonderful dining experience.
You really are never disappointed after a meal here. The food is always excellent, the service attentive, and the wines delicious. Their Boullibaise is phenomenal, even at $45. The only reason I would not give them 5 stars is because they don't change up the menu. It is pretty much the same year after year with just a few specials....

We celebrated my mothers 60th birthday at The Mad Hatter. Great food - Great atmosphere and great service.

Make the reservation, ask for 6:30 PM, they said...

Come hungry and be prepared for a culinary feast. The food is, by far, the very best on Sanibel Island. The waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable. The dining room is small and quaint. My husband had the blackened grouper with asparagus risotto. The fish was cooked to perfection as was the risotto. My cousins had the rack of lamb and...

Make your reservation a few minutes before sunset and wait in the back on the beach to watch the sun go down. It is spectacular. Then go inside and enjoy probably the best food on the island. The staff is very attentive. Note that they don't serve hard liquor, only beer and wine. A little noisy, but it is so...

The food is the best- goat cheese pillows and surf and turf appetizers were wonderful. We had crab cakes and the filet as entrees both were great. The service was first class. The atmosphere was the only down side
