Ranked #2 of 10 restaurants in Ripley
Cuisines: Continental
Dining options: Reservations, After-hours
Description: We downright adore this cosy cottage restaurant in the Surrey village of Ripley, which was originally built in the 16th century. After surviving former lives as a dwelling and an antique shop selling Toby jugs, the Toby Cottage Restaurant was converted to a restaurant in 1979 and has been pleasing local gourmands ever since. The penultimate romantic restaurant, Toby Cottage is perfect for celebrations and family occasions and has original oak beams, a cocktail bar perfect for sneaky aperitifs, and a sensational wine list to compliment its English/Continental menu. Don't miss the smoked duck breast with mango chutney; the deep fried Brie with cranberry sauce; and the classic beef Wellington with mushrooms, pate and Burgundy sauce.

This is the third time we have been there and it is a lovely restaurant and the service was excellent. We dined a la carte on a Saturday and thought that perhaps some of the dishes were a little overpriced, taking into acccount that vegetables were extra. However, looking at their weekday menu, that seemed excellent value. The service was impeccable... More

Food was superb with substantial portions - reminded us very much of The Withies with quite traditional fare. Staff really helpful and attentive

Our first visit to Toby's was in Dec 2012 and when it came to find a traditional restaurant to mark a birthday there really was only one name that came to mind. Readers will have seen earlier reviews, so suffice to say as at April 18th 2013 standards of this excellent establishment remain consistently high across the board. As we... More

Had a family lunch a couple of weeks ago, and thought this restaurant was brilliant, attentive and efficient staff, and wonderful food - what more could you ask for - oh yes!! a set menu price that doesn't break the bank - all of which will encourage and entice us to go back again, and again. Thank you

Having used this restaurant since 1980 we have always found it offered quality coupled with excellent service so it was nice to find ,having not used it for a couple of years, that on a recent visit things had not changed. The food was excellent and the attention from the staff was impeccable,we can thoroughly recommend this restaurant whether it... More

We visited this restaurant yesterday evening, as it has got a good reputation. On entering we found the decor very cosy - a bit like an old-fashioned tearoom. The staff are very professional and friendly and the menu is interesting (we eat out a lot and find some menus very boring). We decided to order from the set menu at... More

We booked this restaurant on the spur of the moment as we fancied a night out. We had driven past it many times, but never gave it a second thought. Big mistake. This restaurant is truly one of the hidden gems of Surrey. The food was outstanding, the wine list excellent, and the service second to none. All-in-all much better... More

The place has a quite traditional feel with a predominantly1980’s menu and the staff are really warming, friendly and the food is good. It was nice to see the waiters and manager chatting as friends with most diners who we assumed were regulars.

My wife and I were looking for something a little special and decided to re-visit the Toby Cottage after a few years. We were delighted to have done so as it was everything you would expect, from the service, food, wines, etc. Will definitely be back again.
