Description: Sow's Ear Restaurant, established in 1986, is located in the Silverpick Lodge, one mile south of Durango Mountain Resort. Set amongst the beautiful San Juan mountains, the Sow's Ear is the longest running restaurant in the area with a new owner and head chef George Mehaffie taking over in May 2008 bringing new ideas and fresh seasonal menus to the restaurant, while continuing the tradition of "the best steaks on the mountain". Come up and see us and enjoy a unique mountain dining experience.

We had our wedding reception at the Sow's Ear in September of 2010, and we have started a tradition of going there on our anniversary. Our reception was one of the best experiences of our life and we have thoroughly enjoyed every experience there since. The food is spectacular, the views breath-taking, and the staff delightful. Our wedding had one... More

I have had six wonderful meals since my last review! The kitchen seems to have remedied the "The customer is wrong" attitude. Elk steak small but excellent, Striped Bass equally small portion, but a tag on preparation and flavors and the Salmon is the only consistently fresh fish on the mountain. This is the only place to eat real food... More

The Sows Ear is simply the best apre ski dineing around. All the food at purgatory sucks, so if you want the real deal you better go see the boys at the Sows ear, no lie hippi guy.

We had a family reunion final dinner at The Sow's Ear. We planned the event well ahead of time. The entire staff went out of their way to make the event special. The food was great. The kids all got a giant chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of ice cream on top for desert. This is a unique place... More

While vacationing at Durango Resort, we stopped by for a late lunch. The view from the restaurant is amazing! We ordered off of the bar menu and had the best hamburgers we have had in quite some time. Have heard the steaks are awsome! All the staff are very friendly. We will eat there next time and try the steaks.

If you want to get out of Durango proper, a 25 minute drive up the mountain to Silver Pick, where the Sow's Ear is located, will be well worth your time. This restaurant is a real gem - the food is superb and perfectly prepared/presented. The staff has been working there together for several years and their coordination/attention to detail... More

The food was superb, service was excellent and friendly Not many vegetarian items, but the chef said he could make something special for us I decided to split the mushroom risotto and i was very glad I did plenty to eat with the addition of a salad and the wonderful cheddar jalapeño rolls

Vacationed in this area, staying in a nice cabin across from the ski resort. One night we decided we didn't want to drive to Durango for dinner and decided to give the Sow's Ear a try. Not a good decision on our part. The strangest, soggiest fish and chips I have ever eaten. Niece ordered a cheeseburger that wasn't very... More

My steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare+)... and the asparagus was perfectly cooked as well. Everything was on par for what one might EXPECT for the price of the plate. There wasn't anything particularly special about the meal. It seemed like the same filet and mashed potatoes and asparagus that I've had at that other place, in that other town.... More
