By far, the best Mexican food in San Jose. The chimichanga is my favorite along with an ice cold super chaveles. Careful with the margaritas-- very good but very strong.

Whenever my husband and I crave Mexican cuisine, we go to Tlaquepague! We are fortunate to live close by to 2 out of the 3 restaurants. We usually go to the one off Willow St--if you are not there early enough, there is a bit of a wait. No matter! Even the chips and salsa are worth it! My favorites...

This is a family run place with outstanding Mexican food. The service isn't the best, but the food is worth it. The specialty drink, Chevalis, will make you want to come back for more.
Food is mediocre, chavelas are good. Service is slow, unattentive, at times rude. Lincoln is not as bad as the location on Willow St.
The food is pretty good. This is a home style restaurant, very casual, not fancy in any way. Prices are reasonable. Try the soup!
If you can handle the smell of bleach while eating a great burrito this place is perfect. Take their fabulous food (get the chile verde!) to go and eat it at home - trust me!
We found this place on Trip Advisor and trusted the reviews. If you love a good mom and pop then you will love it here. The first thing you will notice is that everyone has a large chalas of beer in front of them. They are drinking Chavelas (Chabelas) beer+lemon juice with salt on the rim. After one of these...

My wife and I like to go to Tlaquepaque when we ned a chips and carnitas fix. The chips are hot and the carnitas are crisp. My wife likes the tacos ala carte for a light mean. I have found the full menu satisfies and offers dishes not typically found in the usual "smashed bean" place.
No reservations, so you...

Almost always a line to get seated, but they seat quickly, and don't get pushy to clear you out. Food is good, generous helpings, and more authentic that most Mexican places.
Ok so the food is great, whatever, let's get down to business.
Super Chavelas! These should be renamed: Nectar of the Gods. I've tried making them at home, I've tried getting it from bars, and it's just not the same. Modelo especial, lime juice, a shot of tequila, with salt around the rim of a goblet...nay, a chalice. A sacred...
