I've lived in the neighborhood for 31 years and I guess it was the name that put me off a bit - La Poubelle means The Trashbin. When I first moved back to LA I had brunch here that was so-so, and once I looked up the translation of its name - well, you can understand my hesitancy. But inside... More

La Poubelle is really beautiful inside, I was very impressed. I had the pumpkin soup which was out of this world, Bruschetta, and the New York steak which was the best steak I've ever had. The atmosphere is very loud, people talking and having a great time. Everyone was younger (20's to 30ish) and good looking people, including the staff.... More

This place is very cute, decorated like a French bistro with tables on the sidewalk and a large bar. The main difference from a real French bistro is just its size: about five times bigger than what you would find in Paris. We just had brunch there on a Sunday, and everything was perfect: attentive and efficient service, a very... More

I know this place for more than 20 years now, went through changes in decor, service, chefs, etc., the quality of food was sometimes better sometimes not, but it was always LA POUBELLE, with a great Patron and a funky crowd of people showing up, I experienced some of the best Coq au Vin ever and some very average food,... The food is passable -- I had the coq au vin -- but no more than that. The service was unfriendly and just a little too groovy for words. There are a lot of better places within a ten minute walk.

A return trip to LA prompted yet another gathering at La Poubelle. All the friends who joined us there before wanted to come back again and new visitors also LOVED the Fine, French cuisine as much as we did. The cheese plate is phenomenal, the escargot extremely good, though TOO hot ( a warning would have been helpful, as I... More

Terrific food .. we had coq au vin, mussels mouliniere, grilled Greek salad, penne arribiata .. all wonderful! And generous portions, reasonably priced entrees. That's the good part .. and it is good indeed. Problems are the $30 per person minimum to sit at a table to dine, which means you have to load up on appetizers, salads, desserts, and... More

This place was ok as a neighbourhood walk to when I lived in the area. I never quite felt comfortable here. There's an air of better than thou... Annoying, Pretentious. Good for beautiful people watching... They're crawling out of the woodwork here... ;) Otherwise, pass.
