If you wanna cut a dash in Japanese food in Berkeley you have a job on your hands. O Chame is in the pack but not in the lead. My Beef Udon was disappointing. They say Asian California fusion but dont really show it on the table.

We had lunch at O Chame. We were seated for about 20 minutes before being acknowledged by a waiter who seemed to pass us off to a waitress. The menu had about a dozen appetizers and another dozen ramen and udon choices. It is simple and the offerings are a fusion of California and Japan. We finally ordered and she... More

We count O Chame as our favorite restaurant in the East Bay. The Japanese classic food is a combination of simplicity and expert flavor combinations. Their miso soup is simply delicious and is a wonderful way to start a meal.Wonderful dishes like seared tuna on braised leeks comes alive with their exquisite horseradish sauce. The appetizer portion of the menu... More

We went because my father recommended it. I am glad we did. Between the four of us we sampled most of the limited but tasty offerings on the menu. The tempura was fair. The yellow tail was amazing. The corn filled pancakes were surprisingly delicious. The only ting that could have been better was the service. We were clearly done... More

Dined here for dinner on a week night, but the place was still crowded. Food is hearty and well portioned; they're best known for the udon/soba dishes. I had the slow cooked beef with soba...incredibly tender and tasty. As for the negatives, I found the dining space to noisy; no sound deadening material on the walls.

Roasted oysters and pumpkin tempura. Udon noodles and Monterey Bay squid in fish broth. White wine, plum wine and custard dessert. Natty chic neighborhood. Enjoyed everybody except the waitresses boyfriend who was charging his iphone, running outside on calls, somebody you didn't want to talk to.. But I had walked across Berkeley on a genius appointment across the street and... More

Second time here and I will continue to come back. Scallion pancakes, sashimi and beet salad were great starters. Noodle dishes are all good. Do not miss the balsamic and caramel gelato !!

My wife and I went to Berkeley for a celebration of 100 years of Cal Gymnastics. Met for an early dinner on Thursday with another couple (who recommended O Chame) in the fashionable 4th St. on shopping area. It was so good that we came back for lunch on Saturday.just for the noodle bowls. Given that we only had a... More

We had a wide variety of menu items, and all were fine. But something just didn't ring out. Maybe the slightly overdone salmon. The noisy atmosphere. I don't know, just not a "5".

Enjoyed my meal at O Chame. Shared several starters, including an interesting tempura with taro root and kabocha. Liked the udon with Monterey squid. Nice atmosphere. Would return.
