I showed up without a reservation, which is not a good idea. Very casually dressed, as it IS Berkeley, we were cordially seated after a brief wait. The decor is elegant. The service is efficient and unobtrusive. The food is excellent.

This is my favorite restaurant in Berkeley, CA. I was going to Indian restaurants only for the buffet during daytime until discovering Ajanta. This is the place you can eat varieties of Indian gourmet food with feasible prices. This is not just best Indian but best restaurant for me. Period.

Ajanta was recommended to us by Indian friends. We loved it. My husband, daughter and I opted for the non-vegetarian Chef's Tasting menu. We were all quite pleased. The tandoori scallops were amazing as our first starter and it kept getting better. The wine list was a bargain, too. It is well worth a visit.

Chose this place based on reviews from Yelp, and were not disappointed! We even tried tandoori salmon, and LOVED it. The service was phenomenal. If we're back in the area at any point, we'll DEFINITELY be back. We even considered visiting while we were still in town!

The food was so good we kept adding to our order until we thought we would burst. The staff was gracious and welcoming.
