We found penny black purely by accident today after wondering around Lyme Regis for ages trying to find somewhere that did gluten free cakes. We saw the sign outside and were drawn in by the quirky interior and promise of gluten free treats. We were not disappointed, this place is AMAZING, I can genuinely say it served the best rocky... I cannot resist a good milkshake and Penny Black is ideal, it is nicely tucked away down an alley or cut through the post office. It really is a little gem. This is a must visit when in Lyme which we have done the past couple of years.

Despite having been a pretty regular visitor to Lyme Regis for many years I've never found a cafe / tea shop that floated my boat... Reading Trip Advisor I came across "Penny Black" (named I assume after the valuable old postage stamp as the Cafe is located at the rear of the old Post Office) and so my wife and... More

We came across this cafe by accident as it is at the back of the post office. What a find. Lovely staff and a wonderful cup of coffee and a very tasty piece of fruit cake at a very fair price. We are so glad we found it and will definately visit again next time we are in the area.... More

This is a great little child-friendly cafe with a lovely sheltered terrace garden. My husband and I had some delicious home-made cauliflower soup crusty bread and my 2 girls had beans on toast with a sausage. We finished with fruit cake, rocky road and more fair trade tea. The service was excellent, with lovely little touches. Very impressed.

A great cafe that provided respite from the rain. The food was delicious and hearty and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The number of local customers is a testament to the quality of the service and food.

Bit hard to find and certainly an unlikely place to find a cafe - at the back of a post office. Tea and cakes are quite nice and the outside terrace is a defintely plus on a nice day. Feels all a bit strange in there but the service is reassuringly friendly and sane.

An amazing cafe hidden away at the back off the post office! Beautifully decorated in a shabby chic style. Drinks and food were fantastic! Will be recommending to friends and family. Definitely worth a visit! :)
