Dinner at Casa Saltshaker was absolutely the BEST MEAL that I experienced in Buenos Aires! Dining in a closed door restaurant with a “specialty menu” for the evening, allows chefs to do EXTRAORDINARY THINGS that can’t be done in restaurants pumping out scores of different dishes at the same time. At Saltshaker, Dan Perlman-- food critic, acclaimed chef and sommelier—invites... More

Casa Saltshaker is a true Puerta Cerrada restaurant. It is in the home of the chef, unlike the other two closed door restaurants we have been to in BA. Dan Perlman was a chef in NYC before moving to BA and opening the restaurant in his house. We arrived at 9 and were greeted with a small cocktail called a... More

My wife set up a private dinner at Casa Salt-Shaker for a trip we took to BA with some family. We had some dietary restrictions and allergies, so we let Dan know in advance. He made the most delicious dinner I've had in years... despite the fact that Dan was limited by our embarrassingly long list of dietary restrictions (gluten,... More

Dan and Henry provide a wonderful experience in a "puerta cerrada" dining experience. Dinner is provided in their home in an unhurried fashion through the evening with small groups of guests generally sitting at one table. The night we visited the group was lively and entertaining and we all enjoyed the lost art of conversation with intelligent and interesting people.... More

Recommended by a friend, my husband and I reserved dinner at Casa Salt Shaker. I had not read any reviews, only sample menus. My husband and I are semi-amateur foodies (we live in CA, so we are blessed by pretty great food), but this meal was *awesome* - creative, interesting, well-paced, and definitely the most delicious meal during our trip... I went to this closed door restaurant, actually is where the chef lives, and I must say I was blown away by the food. Every single dish was better than the previous one, and even the dessert was an instant classic. I read some reviews about the lack of "empathy" from the chef... Well, I don't share that point of... Thanks for recognizing the work that goes into the evening - in an ideal world we'd have the kitchen and dining room open to each other and I'd be able to participate more over the evening - unfortunately, we don't have that ideal world or home, we try to make it work and I try to spend as much time... I just returned from my third trip to Argentina and one of the highlights was dinner at Casa Saltshaker! I was one of three solo diners and one of five US citizens, plus five Brazilians. I was unfamiliar with the term "closed door" restaurant until this visit, but it's become quite a phenomenon and Casa Saltshaker does not disappoint. Dan... More

We hate for people to go home hungry, but so sorry we overstuffed you to the point you couldn't eat dessert. Thanks for being a great part of the evening! More

I just returned from a fabulous week-long vacation in Buenos Aires with my husband, in-laws, mother, and aunt. I'd read great things about Casa Saltshaker first in a travel magazine, and then on the TripAdvisor forum. It didn't take me long to realize that a meal there was a must. I was not disappointed. As a matter of fact, it... More

We had a lovely evening at Casa Saltshaker - had read up on Dan & Henry and what they do and we were not disappointed. Menus are based on what Dan is in the mood for and while this is not "haute cuisine" its damn tasty. Our beet soup, sea bass, and dessert courses were all quite divine. Each of... More

One way or another it seems that conversations happen, in common language or not - it's part of the fun of travel and meeting new people over dinner, right? More

. The evening depends on the menu and the group of people that happen to sign up. We lucked out on both scores.. The food was excellent and the people in our group were fun and interesting. If you like to have choices from a menu, it's not for you because the menu is set by the chef. (but if... More

While you're right that there's variation in both menu and the people who come to dinner, we like to think it's less a matter of luck than a matter of trying hard on our part and attracting a certain kind of people to join the table. Thanks for being a part of making it fun and interesting! More
