The trouble with eating in Udaipur is twofold. Firstly, the backpacker-pallete has really brought culinary standards down. Because they will eat anything so long as it is bland and cheap. Secondly, and this is a more carnivorous concern, very few places offer meat. Lotus Cafe does. It's just really bland and boring food. The place is ok, albeit nothing remarkable.... More

I loved the upstairs floor seating with table in the center. It offers games and a good place to kick back. The food was delicious and service was good. I went there a couple of times as it was worth going back! More

Off a corner in Udaipur on the road leading from the Lake Palace you will find this place. Not only is the food really good, but you will see and can buy crafts and other local items with the locals. We got some shoes and clothes which had many Indians shopping in them. Try the Kashmiri Pulau for something unexpected.... More

It's spartan and bare bones on the inside (4 tables) with great prices. My dish, navratam korma, was delish but my partner's, Chana masala was not. The chick peas tasted fermented and fetid. The chai is desultory and really should be called hot, sugared milk with barely any spice. At those prices however, it's easy to be hit or miss. More

We went to Lotus Cafe for lunch at an awkward time of 4 pm, having no hopes of getting a decent menu. But to our delight, the first option we read was 'papd ki sabzi' - a famous rajasthani local dish. This cafe (or should I say restaurant) has lots more to offer (and cheap) if you are in a... More

Lots of hullabaloo about this hole in the wall in guidebooks and on the web. It's a fine, yet rather dark, little mini-cafe near the temple intersection. Food was slightly above average but when Lonely Planet mentions this place (out of maybe 500 places to eat in the city) you're expecting more, there's no way around it. It's almost as... More
