Visited april 19/20, 2013- lunch times. After reading a good review about this place, i tried to look for it during my visit. I found the place and it was closed. I asked around and i was informed they are closed during winter. I am not sure though if the one i asked was reliable but everytime i pass the... More

We chanced on this partially hidden place on our way to our hotel. I had been meaning to have something from a german bakery but never had the chance. As it was tea time, we decided to stop here and finally try a german bakery. The pot of tea/ coffee was enormous and not bad. It was all black and... More

The set breakfast here became a firm favourite here. The place does decent fresh coffee too, which I substituted for the Nescafe that comes as a norm with the set breakfast (no extra charge). The service, Nepalese staff, always came with a smile. Lunch and dinner here are good too, with a varied menu including a few Thai choices. Their... More

Although a lot of namesakes have sprung up, the Original Pumpernickel German Bakery is the one run by the Sikh gentleman whose shop is across the SBI ATM on the road that slopes downwards. The original German Bakeries in India were first opened in Varanasi, Pune and Leh. From there the concept was repeated in different cities. The Sikh gentleman... More

Now, if somebody tells you to eat at German Bakery in Leh, tell them to pin the place on a map. Every bakery was a german Bakery and no matter whcih one you went in and asked they all said they are the original. Nonetheless, we went to 2 german bakeries. One on our first day in Leh, we went... Some places ned to be visited just for their historical & 'fame' value. This is one such place. Highly hyped - so easy to get disappointed. So do keep in mind that this is Leh...... You're expecting German fare from a Sikh owner, with Ladhaki help in a remote part of the Himalayas.....! Get perspective & you'll enjoy the place!... More

nothing ready made, apart from the take home part. Food is ok, some items greasy, but you can easily figure out which ones. But the kitchen is somewhere else, so people will be walking in the street with your food. I suspect the name is what they have, because the same bakery across the street as a nicer garden cleaner... You cant be expecting great food in Leh when it comes to Conti and Baked food. This bakery is average, I had ordered some sandwiches which were strictly ok. Its a bit overrated, may be it is enjoying the the glory of yesteryear.

The location is quaint and the food is delicious, but unfortunately it's a bit of a pain to get said food. Twice we ate here and twice they messed up the order then vanished into the kitchen for 20 minutes. The food was good, but it's only so good when one person has finished their meal and the other is... More
