I discovered this restaurant through friends. With amazing views of the lake and volcano, traditional and rustic building, this is a popular local restaurant in the Chilean Lake District, distinctive with the influences that date from the German settlement of this area in the late 1800's. Table bookings are not necessary but at busy times of the week/year it is... More

I found this restaurant following a recommendation from a local in Puerto Octay. It’s 7 kilometres west of Puerto Octay. It will soon be easy to locate due to the octagonal building close to the road. From the outside it doesn’t look anything special at this moment, but inside it’s 100% wood similar to a ski lodge. The outlook to... More

I went there because a good friend said the place was a "must go" if you are around. He did not exaggerated. Under normal circumstances I would stay away from an "all you can it" buffet but this place was surprisingly good. The wild boar was awesome. I cannot give 5 points because the desserts were just ok.

The area is beautiful. The restaurant itself is quite charming in a rustic style. Unfortunately the food is not always great because since it is an "all you can eat" buffet sometimes things are overcooked or cold by the time you get to them. Worth a visit but get there early to have fresh food.

make sure you don't eat for a few days before coming to this place!!! the food is awesome!!! wild boar, all kinds of meats, sausages, etc... and the bufet spread is spectacular!! we stayed 3 nights in Puerto Octay and ate here 3 times. We had lunch at the Rancho Espatapajaros as part of a tour of the lake district and were not disappointed. A smorgasbord of various salads, olives, salsa and Chilean delicacies together with the open barbecue so typical of Chile and Argentina. A slab of wild boar and sauerkraut, salads, sauces were tasty. You can sample as much or as little... More

i can't fault the place for the food or the venue but as it was a Monday night we were the only customers. Which was a suprise given the high regard this place has in the locale. So yes it lacked atmosphere but I think on a busy night it'd be great. My wife is a veggie which meant she... More

I've eaten at Espantapajaros three times. The first two times it was quite nice with a delicious buffet and outstanding javalina (wild pig). But the third time was awful. We showed up at about 1:00 and were ushered into the annex part of the restaurant. It was completely empty so we asked to eat in the main dining room. We... More

This place was recommended to us by friend who said the BBQ goat was best ever. We sampled it and much more at the all you can eat buffet and thoroughly enjoyed. It was cloudy the day we visited but I understand views of Volcano Osorno are spectacular from there. Pasture and animals are nice for kids of all ages.

this place used to border on amazing, and I sincerely wish it would go back to what it was before: great, juicy bbq, all you can eat, good salad bar, free flowing wine and beer, and desert bar. now, same but the quality is not up to par. the bbq is still pretty good but salads were limp, the other...
