This restaurant is not among the beauties, so it is recommended to sit up on the roof terrace, which is really lovely. Service is good, really good when compared to Hanoian standards. That alone makes the restaurant deserve the "really good" rating.
Try the pumpkin soup, or any of the Vietnamese dishes.

Exchange Café is a bit challenging to find. It is opposite to the opera. You need to peek in the small alley on the right side of the bright lights of Cherry and Paris Deli. The restaurant (not a café) is in an elegant old villa. It is in four floors each with different character. In the fifth floor they...

We went to the 'exchange cafe' after reading about it here. We were not disappointed. Although the menu is a bit limited, the food is fresh and tasty. Contrary to other Hanoi restaurants that we have been to, this one has an extreme friendly staff that welcomes you with a good English. We recommend that either sit on the roof...

It is true what they say in all the other good reviews. The staff, atmosphere and food are great.

Worth the walk to find this restaurant. Its opposite the Opera House and down a little alley way at the side of the Stock Exchange. Great menu, had a fantastic meal. Loads of choice, every thing cooked fresh and very tasty, there was 8 of us so thats a lot of people to please. Highly recommend.

Took half our evening to find this place. We were disappointed after making a big effort to find. The menu was limited and not exciting even drinks were limited. The two entrees we ordered were fresh and tasty, but the mains unaspiring so did not order. Only one other table of locals there. No atmosphere.

Tucked down an alley running parallel and between Trang Tien and Hai Ba Trung at 28 Ngo Trang Tien is, in my opinion, the best restaurant for money in Hanoi. Sure, you can eat street food for $1.50, but if you want some nice Western or Vietnamese food at a moderate price in a nice setting, this is the place...

In hindsight the Exchange is a compete tourist trap. The food was very average and the service was nothing to rave on about. Everything I ate reminded me of a wet sock with shredded newspaper and chilli sauce. Maybe it was an off day, who knows, but in any case I could not see what the big deal was about...

Great service-- the people working there are super friendly, the owner is wonderful. The food is fantastic; have eaten there several times and have enjoyed it each time. Its a nice quiet place, great to get away from some of the chaos. When the weather is nice, they have a nice rooftop patio.
