We've eaten at Bacchus five times in the last two years. It is expensive but the food, the service, the wine list and the great little touches make it the best special occasion or indulgence restaurant experience in Newcastle. On the last visit we took local friends along and there was no disappointment. We have now moved away from Newcastle... More

I have eaten at this restaurant 3 times and after the last experience would never return. We were a large booking of a group of 20 people for a 30th birthday party but were told on the night they don't like booking large groups. We arrived before dinner to utilise the lounge areas to have a pre drink only to... More

Hi, thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts on your experience at Bacchus Restaurant. I must say I am quite taken aback with your comments on the staff and service, of course not being up to our usual high standards. As your dining experience was clearly some time ago I would like to speak with you in... More

My boyfriend recently took me here for a romantic treat. Be warned it is pricy but worth it for the food and quality of service. The waiters are all very friendly and helpful and the bartender's cocktails were amazing! You can enjoy tapas and drinks to the side in a lounge without having to do a la carte, and they... More

Our friends took us out to Bacchus lastfriday night. The building was a complete surprise, it is a converted turn of the century theater, a beautiful setting which complemented to food very nicely. We had pre dinner drinks in a comfortable area off to one side, one becoming two and then three prior to ordering and seating some time later.... More

Bacchus is fine dining at its best. The ambience is lovely and the service impeccable. It was actually a nice treat to have so many different personalities serve the table who knew the food well. The food was presented like fine art. The food itself was art with the different textures and complimenting flavours. The palette cleansers were refreshing ..... More

What an awesome experience. Loved every minute of the dining adventure at Bacchus. Very knowledgable, friendly, staff. Well matched wine. The degustation is highly recommended, it's a food adventure that tells a story. Worth every cent, can't wait to return to Newcastle.

A charming room, steeped in local history and a chef who is a culinary artist. Every moment of the meal was a treat.

I have not yet dined at Bacchus for an evening meal, but I have had the pleasure of going along for their monthly high tea on two occasions. The service is excellent on these days, and the food acceptable to very good depending on the exact item. High tea is served on a 3 tiered tower, with savoury and sweet... More

Loved the old theatre, the ambiance, the ability to sit in comfy chairs with a drink before dinner, the food is extremely well presented, and service with a smile - staff ready to talk about the building and explain the dishes. You can also score Qantas FF points here. Downsides are, as other reviewers have said, small serves and extremely... More

Staying at the novotel over Australia Day Weekend. Decided to Check out Bacchus as it was on the same street and had a Hat on the GFG SMH. Wasn't sure what to expect but really glad we went. The restaurant is an old theatre converted and atmosphere was great. The waiters were patient and we had a few drinks before... More
