Description: Housed in the distinctive Art Deco ‘Waterside Workers Union Hall’ The Town House (formally The Bay House) is a ‘must do’ on your coastal itinerary. Reminiscent of a European café The Town House is the ‘go to’ place whatever you’re dining needs, whether it be a meal at anytime during the day or evening, a coffee and croissant in the morning, an afternoon wine or cocktail or a late evening drink and dessert. This is the place where you will find the locals sipping espresso at the bar on a Saturday morning reading the paper while others dine in the restaurant and enjoy the a la carte menu on offer. Located towards the port end of town near the picturesque fishing wharf on the corner of Palmerston and Cobden Streets, The Town House’ cosy interior is in keeping with its art deco history featuring original wooden floors, be-spoke wallpaper and wood paneled walls throughout with a deco sunburst theme behind the bar, the freestanding fireplace and in the original art deco glass and rimu doors that lead to the north facing terrace. The dining room is cosy despite its open design and high ceilings. The room warms up as it fills up with diners and comes alive with the enjoyable buzz of dinner conversations and as the warm weather comes to an end a spot by the fireplace is desirable and will see you settle in for a very comfortable dining experience. The Terrace has seating for 40 diners and on a sunny day is the best spot in town for alfresco wining and dining.

Amazing service, very friendly and helpful. We came into the town late and asked them some info about the town. Food was great, coming from a place were restaurants are plenty and fine dinning, I think this place sits perfectly with them. Such a surprise in a little town.

I've been to the Town house several times and each time is a pleasure. Service is always great, food & coffee is consistently good and the atmosphere is by far the nicest in town. Wine/beer list is extensive and interesting. Definitely the place to go when you visit Westport!

Best place for a quiet pint and Sunday roast. Cool staff, cold cider and awesome food. And for those with a sweet tooth Mels treats are tops.

I've been to The Town House on several occasions and the food has been good. Unfortunately this visit I had to send the meal back to the kitchen ( a first for me). The waitress couldn't have been any more apologetic, and the situation was remedied (with an alternate meal) promptly and it was delicious. However, the initial meal should... More

We visit The Town House often and it is always our restaurant of choice for brunch, lunch or dinner out. We have never had a bad meal and the freshly baked goods are divine. If you are in Westport this is the place to visit for good coffee, food and an excellent selection of wines and beer. The best eating/drinking... More

We stopped for lunch at The Town House while on a long day's drive from Collingwood to Franz Josef -- after seeing a review in Lonely Planet. My husband had his misgivings on entering the restaurant (not many diners at that time of day) but on tucking into his salad was won over completely. Excellent food, and a nice respite... More

A lot about eating out is not just the food. It is the feeling within the restaurant. We were left feeling uncomfortable and wishing for some decent customer service. The menu looked lovely. Limited vegetarian, food, but the available option sounded appetising. On arriving we asked the waitress for information on whether there were gluten free options ( my husband... More

We read about this on trip advisor, having noticed it while driving through Westport. We were going to,go to our hotel dining room but it felt like going back to the future! We chose to go to the Town House as we realised it was (or perhaps had been owned by the same people as the Beach House, at Cape... More
