Thanks for your comments. Yes, blue cod definitely rules down here in the south. So glad you enjoyed your Rics Galley experiences. Come again next time you're down this way.

Chips were below average, having worked in fast foods I know making good chips is simple, these were not good. On the fish we did buy one of the cheaper fish though was insipid ...reminded us of a shop stuck in an age where food quality wasn't important & people didn't expect much...
The fish was very good, the chips less so, the other stuff was just standard fish and chip shop fare. It's kind of pricey as fish and chips go, but the quality of the fish and the fresh cooking justifies this, I think. As another reviewer mentioned, the view from the bench outside is stunning, over the harbour to Mt...

We throughly enjoyed our blue cod and chips - made us realize the cod we get at home is probably not cod! Conveniently located.
I had expected great things from Ric's, this was my first time, and so with so many good reviews I guess I had high expectations. I ordered the seafood basket, which at $15 was pretty good value, The chips are ok, nothing special, the blue cod was good, the rest of the bits were pretty uninspiring. The best part about...

What a great town Portobello is! I just wanted to thank Ric for offering an affordable food option for families. It is a cute, little tucked away fish and chip shop in the coastal township.

Our host at Yellow House recommended and superb, the wait for it all to be cooked fresh is well worth it, time to go over the road to get a drink while you wait.
Thank you for your comments regarding our Fish 'n' Chips and for visiting our wonderful Otago Peninsula. We are glad you enjoyed your visit so much.
Hope to see you back one day soon.
Kind regards

I almost missed the shop as it has a really small, almost non-existent shop front. The owner was really friendly and we had scallops, flounder and baked cod. The batter was light and not oily. The fish were fresh and the chips hot! Plus it was really affordable too!
Perhaps it was because I didn't eat the takeaways immediately, or perhaps expectations were too high (since this place won awards)...But I have to say that the fish was nice but not really fantastic.
