I had the mussels from the "Light Meals" menu thinking I could fill up on the bread... no need! The serving was huge and very tasty! My other half had the Pork Loin- just lovely! We shared the deep fried Camembert cheese as an entree- so decadent but the spicy sauce helped cut through the richness. Very glad we stopped... More

The pub maintains an Old-World ambiance but a very noisy group discussing a sexual encounter in language not appreciated by the rest of us, had also 'hogged' the fire. The menu prices were also expensive so we were left in the cold in more ways than one. We went to pleasant surroundings where we were treated with warmth. More

The exterior of the building was very nice, historical. We were very disappointed after going in. It was very loud, terribly bright, the band...which was in the very back...was very loud. The interior was a contrast of some historical architecture and some that was quite modern. We did enjoy looking at the historical items displayed. We waited a quite a... More

Dont come here and expect table service - its not what we do. We have done our very best to make this known to new guests and have it displayed on 8 signs around the bar, on the front of every menu holder and on the front cover and page 3 of the menu in large type. We do have... More

At the end of the day its a pub serving pub food so they deliver well on pub food at affordable pricing with good size portions. Was disapointed with some service but admittedly between bad and good it averaged out okay, the night was quite cold which obviously wasnt their fault but the fake fireplaces were a bit of a... More

Harsh. We have electric fires with a flame look as we figure while they aren't real they are better than heat pumps but to answer the query - because the building is totally made of 12 inch thick reinforced concrete and 2 storys high it is very very expensive to cut through the floor above and then through the roof.... My husband and I and another couple had a good meal at the Pig and Whistle. The beer was nice and cold and the mussels were very tasty. The ribs were a huge meal tasty and very filling. We would recommend The Pig and Whistle if you are looking for a good pub meal. More

Went there for lunch, used to be a favourite haunt of ours when we lived a little closer to Rotorua and were regular visitors. Not much has changed great food, still huge portions great value and friendly efficient staff. Having experienced their large meals before we ordered reasonably conservatively being small eaters i recommend that or bring your appetite. We... More

Wonderful young man served us and brought us enormous snowy margarettas. A really lovely way to spend a couple of hours before dinner. More

A pub trying to be more adventurous with their menu but not being able to make the grade. They should stick to simple pub grub. I had the king prawn and bacon linguine but "chef" forgot the bacon! When i complained to the waitress she said she'd let the kitchen know but that was it! If I go again, I'll... More

This reviewer is quite right. While we appreciate the feedback, we are incredibly disappointed to get a review like this. It would have taken no time at all for staff to set this right. We have used the review to take the time to speak to all the Front of House staff to reinforce our expectations and to remind them... More
