Coming from South Melbourne with lots of high quality cafe's around, great coffee can be sometimes hard to find when you are travelling. The Whileaway Coffeeshop had great coffee, and it was a great place to peruse the bookstore whilst waiting for your coffee. Some cool books to check out also!

I recently called in to the Whileaway Coffee Shop in Port Douglas to meet some friends, and I enjoyed the best coffee there that I have tasted anywhere else in Queensland. Quite a nice place for an early morning cup of coffee, while watching the town's main street awaken. I highly recommend a cappuccino, and sit out front and relax. You also may have a request from a local for a chat.

Interesting, thoughtful selection of books. Would have bought more, but had to fit everything into limited luggage.

My wife and I came here several times on our last trip to Port Douglas. They do nice coffe and have a great selection of cakes and slices. Its also a book shop which gives it a homey/alternative vibe. Friendly owner and nice atmosphere.

If you're used to good, strong flavoured coffee thay you'd get in Sydney or Melbourne then you'll walk away a little disappointed by the flavour. I asked for a double but couldn't really taste the coffee. In saying that, the staff were super friendly, very welcoming and considering Port Douglas is a small, remote town, the books are reasonably priced.
