Let me start with with a positive, there isn't a better hotel beach in Hawaii. The food however is mediocre at best. Yes, you can eat all the lobster, shrimp, and ahi you want but beyond that it's just your normal run of the mill buffet (prime rib carving station and all) on a great beach. If you are going... More

This was a nice change from typical luau food. Incredible feast on lobster perfectly prepared. Sashimi very high grade and delicious!! Desserts ... Bread pudding, cream puffs, sundae bar were all yummy! It would have been nice if they included a Mai tai or wine. More

A Saturday night (weekly) event on the beach at the Mauna Kea, this was the highlight of our belated honeymoon in Hawaii. Obviously you pay for the view ($90 per person not including alcohol) but the buffet food lines were the best I've ever seen. Table one was jumbo shrimp, freshly made California rolls, oysters in the shell & sashimi...all... More

This clambake only occurs on Saturdays. It is a seafood Hawaiian style buffet so you can eat as much or as little as you want. The featured items are the steamed Hawaiian grown Keahole lobster, fresh crab legs, and Hawaiian grown prime rib. We stuffed ourselves with the lobster which was sweet although smaller than Maine lobster tails. All the... More

We had a lovely Sunday brunch with a beautiful view of the ocean at the Mauna Kea. The selection of food was amazing and all delicious. I saw a whale breach and it was such a beautiful site. The brunch was a bit pricey but so worth it for the food, view and ambience. It was a special ending to... More

We stayed at Mauna Kea and this was a fun evening. Food is plentiful and wonderful, lobsters, oysters, clams, shrimp plus other options for non seafood lovers. Outstanding. More

Just got into the Big Island on Saturday August 1 and checked into the Hapuna Prince, the sister property to the Mauna Kea. In reading the earlier review from 2008 we were interested in starting off our vacation with a good meal. Once we confimed that the newly reopened Mauna Kea indeed still had the Saturday Clambake, we took the... More

If you enjoy eating with a lot of tourist it is OK. Food is as good as it can be under the conditions. The views from the beach are great, especially the sun setting over the cove at the Mauna Kea. A better view of the sunset with more privacy is on their signature par 3 hole over the ocean... More

We were tipped off to this event by a local resident on our plane ride over, and we weren't disappointed! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing - on the beach, with the sun setting in the background - what more could you want?! They supplied a small Hawaiian band, who took requests - we ended up dancing... More
