A proper pub, friendly staff with a nice range of drinks. Folk club welcomed strangers like lost relatives. The ridge in the selling out shop is 72 years old - amazing place.
I love taking a step out of the street and into the friendly, gorgeous atmosphere that is Ma Murpy's, any time of day at all, it is always a treat. I love to take friends or meet friends here, it is of its own unique and timeless quality, great for any traveller...weary or up for the Craic!!
We went as a group of 24 to the near empty pub after lunch. Only five minutes after we arrived, the bartender warned us to buy drinks or leave. A few went to get drinks, while the majoriy was still thinking about which one when he came and told us to leave the pub in a snappy manner. Did not... More
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the great banter. Went out here for a couple of nights during our weeks stay in Bantry and had two great evenings. One of the nights there was live music playing which was a bonus.
Ma murphy's is ,in my oppinion, One of the most original Irish pubs. Already when walk throug the door and find yourself in the litle grosery shop, you can feel and hear yhe good atmosphere from the bar, just throug the next doors. The bar itself are a narrow rather smal room, but whith lot of space for every one.... More
I didn't eat here. Just went for the pub. I had the time of my life. Met so many nice people. Made friends with a German father and daughter. We are now friends on facebook.
had a few pints with work mates there last week, really nice staff working there, met the owner and he is a real character and great fun. The front is an old shop and its a really authentic pub and had good music on too. Only complaint I had was that the mens urinal / toilet stank - enough to... More
A must see experience. A step back in time is how I would describe it. The boss, Bill (of Welsh origin) was a great character and very friendly, welcoming and sociable. Front area contained a fridge that celebrated it's 70th birthday recently( a product of General Motors). Clientelle mixed freely, and it was a must see. Will definetly return.
We stumbled on this wonderful wee pub while in Bantry, what a lovely place to pass an hour or two . A shop on the way in and Guiness on the other side of the door. Friendly staff and customers, two from America and a Irish/French couple. Long may it remain unchanged.
You cannot go wrong visiting Ma Murphy's for a pint, a laugh and a warm smile from Bill behind the bar. You will definitely feel at home with a pint of Guinness in the back garden...but I promise one will certainly lead to two.
