Quirky old place, you could spend hours just puzzling the building out, Oliver Cromwell was supposed to have been entertained here! (Bet he didnt eat as well as us!) The ground floor lounge was a bit smokey from the welcoming open fire and we had to ask for a sleeping cat to be removed as one of our party is... More

We went to Blagraves for my wife’s birthday. Throughout the evening the maitre d’ was friendly, helpful and considerate. The setting is very old and the décor enhances that. The little “amuse bouche” tartlets were very tasty, the wine very good and the starters excellent. However, both main courses were somewhat disappointing. My wife’s fillet steak, ordered medium rare was... More

I visited this restaurant with my husband on a saturday night and had a lovely eveing. The menu was la carte and there was plenty to choose from. The pre dinner drinks were in the lounge with an open fire and then up to the restaurant for the meal. All three courses were delicious and the staff were friendly and... More

Visited Blagraves House with our 'French' cousin whilst up in this beautiful area for a few days in Feb 2012. The whole dining experience was excellent, from the warm welcome into the wood-fire scented reception with roaring fire to the faultless meal provided to all three of us, and the friendliness and attentiveness of staff. The restaurant is fairly bijou... More

This is a very old building dating back to the time of Oliver Cromwell and still retains that olde worlde charm and atmosphere. The food and the service are excellent. If you are looking for something a little bit different, food and surroundings, try Blagraves. More

We were taken on a night out to this superb little place by our employers as a thankyou to all the staff that has worked for them. This place is special to them and they were both kind enough to share it with "their staff". We entered to a warm and welcoming downstairs reception room with a delightful ambience. The... More

Staff were welcoming and friendly and even though it was an August night, the area around the open fire was lovely to sit in whilst having a pre dinner drink. Food was beautifully presented and very tasty, all home cooked including the bread. Wine was priced reasonably, food - 5 choices for each course on a set menu £24 for... More

A unique experience. We had passed this restaurant many times and always promised to visit for a meal. We were not disappointed. From the first step into a room for pre dinner drinks in front of an open fire, to being taken upstairs to a room steeped in history with open fires and facinating features the food and service is... We have just enjoyed dinner at Blagraves with my brother and family whilst visiting Barnard Castle. The restaurant is in the oldest building in the town and is very atmospheric and cosy. The food and service were excellent, would definitlely return and highly recommend. More
