Having pre-booked a table for 5 for Sunday lunch was surprised on arrival that none had been reserved. There were no Sunday Lunch menus either. Was informed by staff what was available & told to order at the bar. The whole pub is a mish-mash of furniture & a vast amount of ornaments & other tat. There seemed to be... More

We stayed here for 3 nights in early Sept. A welcome that many 4 star hotels could learn from. The food is not smart in terms of gastro, but is of very good quality, the steak and kidney pud, ah! and loved the imaginative use of yorkshire puddings. Warning, do not have the full English breakfast, whilst excellent, you will... More

Living in the south - in the home counties - I am subject to astronomically priced gastro pubs or boil in a bag chains. The crown is neither. Dog friendly and a warm welcome from staff and locals- this is a well priced pub with a proper english cook. Fab steak and kidney pud and a great bread and butter... More

With generous portions and attentive staff, the Crown is a great place for a meal. The menu has so many yummy things to choose from, we found it hard to decide, but once we had chosen, we were served in good time, and the food was excellent.

We stayed for one night early July. The room was clean but shabby. Bedside lights did not work. Handle fell off the wardrobe door. The window would not open. The room smelled of smoke. The evening meal taken in the restaurant was adequate and reasonably priced. The cooked breakfast was poor. The ingredients did not seem fresh. The attitude of... More

When we we arrived we were welcomed by the landlord (David) and shown to our room they gave us all the information about local tourist sites and gave us loads of ideas of where to go in the area, we ate both nights in the restaurant and the food was unbelievably excellent and all home made, that's when the landlady... Having noticed new signs and decorations at The Crown we decided to try it for lunch, what a mistake, we nearly walked straight back out and with hindsight wished we had. The inside decor was very shoddy, we felt as if we were sitting in an old peoples home and it all felt a bit grubby. It was badly finished... More

Just returned from a three day stay at The Crown with friends. We were very impressed with the friendliness and welcome we received. Bedrooms were immaculate and beds very comfortable. My husband and I did not have an en-suite in our room but did have our own personal bathroom adjacent to our room. Food was good and breakfast excellent. Certainly... More

'A traditional country pub that does food.' A seemingly fitting description of The Crown from the landlord, yet in truth, an undeniable exemplification of modesty. Having arrived after a long arduous day on the rugby pitch, the sole aim of our visit was to celebrate with a steak, washed down by a couple of pints of real ale. We were... More
