Just arrived in Helsinki and were recommended Luomo by our concierge. We were more than pleasantly surprised. We chose the 3-course tasting menu (although you can get 5 and 7 as well). Each course was unique, juxtaposing flavors and ingredients you would not expect to go together. The restaurant also surprised us with multiple "amuse-bouches". The service was attentive although... Having visited many other good restaurants in Helsinki and considering that this restaurant has a Michelin star, I expected great food and excellent service. The food was generally good, with many interesting dishes, although some dishes were a bit borderline (including a taster served in a test-tube). The biggest negative about this place is that the service is horrible. None... More
The new wave of Scandinavian cuisine has hit the shores of Finland comparatively recently, but with restaurants like Luomo, Helsinki should now be firmly placed on the gastronome's travel radar. We had a truly memorable dinner in a relaxed yet intimate setting. The decor is minimalist but warm, in a cool, bright room overlooking Helsinki's market square. The service is smiling... More
Luomo was truly a special experience. Helsinki has experienced a boom in high quality restaurants, and we chose Luomo as our special, high-end dinner for this trip. We selected the five-course menu with wine pairings. Each course was beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. We had a taste of Menu 32 with wines, and have to say that the dinner was very good. Some real surprises - tastes that go well together when you thought they wouldn't, but then maybe some quite average things that made you want to go on to the next item. Perhaps the fennel dessert was the most surprise. This... More
This is a lovely spot but we were very disappointed in the lack of flexibility for a vegetarian and another guest who did not eat beef. We had corresponded in advance about our dietary limitations and told them that our guests would be celebrating their anniversary. We had been assured that it would be fine. However our meal was neither... More
The new restaurant premises look nice, minimalistic design. The location of the restaurant is perfect, in the heart of the city, by the market place with a sea view. Unfortunately food was not as good as you expect for a Michelin star restaurant, nor worth the high price. Service varied a lot during the evening, from excellent to poor.
Strong points - clean tasting saucers of food - unusual combinations of flavors - excellent wine choices - brave attempt to challenge other fine restaurants in Helsinki Weak Points - too many small dishes blunt the taste buds - restaurant lacks a quality feel, because location is rather plain - the space needs more drama and less formaility - too...
