Bright atmosphere, reading table, a lot of space and great service. One of the rare place in Amsterdam that it is great to go and talk.
Amongst all the narrow cafés this bright hall with huge windows is an exception - good service, snacks and drinks - and a huge table to read international newspapers with a cup of coffea or two.
When in Amsterdam I like to sit there an afternoon outside. They got a nice terrace near the water (as well one on the first floor). Though service tend to be a bit slowish sometimes just sitting outside, having a nice drink and maybe a french bread with goat cheese makes it worth the wait.
I've been here before and thought it was great. I came back this time for the view and a sandwich. After waiting for 30 minutes trying to get the serving lady's attention to get a sandwich....I paid for my beer (served in a cracked glass) and walked out. the menu isn't that extensive and the view...not all that. Thanks for... More
It's a jazz place, open space, minimal, ideal for all occasions - very Dutch architecture and style, bright but not warm, authentic although it can be touristic too. A special place for everyday coffee and a drink with friends, (blind) date or just reading. Super place for lunch, next to the river - picturesque. Not sure I like the upper... More
The location is really good and the cafe has a great view. It is near the canal and it has a great garden that you should come and spend time in summer. There are small lights in the garden that looks really pretty. Also, inside of the cafe is perfect. It has high ceiling, great beers and nice foods.
This is my favorite place to sit in Amsterdam. The menu is lovely, with high-quality borrels and food, but the space—complete with international papers, vaulted ceilings, and huge windows—is phenomenal. If it's sunny, sit on one of the outdoor patios overlooking the canals. If it's raining, find a table inside and spend the day reading, eating & drinking, and people... More
A group of us were having a day on the canal on a friend's boat when he pulled up to the Cafe de Jaren for lunch. It was the beginning of the heat wave in July and everything and everyone that could move was on the canal and outdoors. There were 10 of us who sat on the terrace and... More
Arrived for lunch following a heavy shower of rain so there was no one sitting outside and we had a great choice of tables! The outlook is great as the restaurant is located at the canal side with plenty of passing water traffic which beats street traffic any day. The standing rainwater was quickly and efficiently removed from the table... More
