We've returned again and again to this restaurant, first as Dolce Maria and now Pozzo Antico, over the past four years. Our last visit was disappointing in comparison to the others. Perhaps it was the tour group visiting or just an off night, but neither the food or service was up to Paola's usual standards. The Beefsteak Florentine was full... More

We had wandered all of Cortona, which can be a bit sprawling, when we remembered passing this peaceful place and found our way back. Had a bowl of polenta with meat ragu on top, and husband had traditional vegetable soup including bread bits, and we shared a delcate fennel and orange salad which was very inspired, with their own local... This is a wonderful restaurant to visit if you want to feel warmly invited in and to enjoy the ambiance of an evening with great food, terrific owners, and fun clientele. I've eaten there 3 times in the last 20 days and feel like a member of the family. Paolo makes every customer feel special. We had the best sausage... More

Just returned from dinner here and was very impressed. The food was very good and the ambience was perfect. Most impressive was the service. The owners were very accomodating, meeting the detary needs of a vegetarian and someone with celiac with great care and attention. Paola made excellent suggestions and treated us like we were friends who would be back... More

This was our first of many meals in Cortona, and it was lovely to be welcomed like family (including "you haven't finished everything on your plate"!) Food is classic and good, and the atmosphere is charming. Go to the restroom area to see the old foundations of the building. More

I was lodged at the Doce Maria BB (the same owners) and had dinner there the two nights I stayed in Cortona. Paola was all kindness and always wanting to give advice on food or wine. Service was excellent and food was first-quality and well prepared Wanted to return when I was in the area More

Visited the restaurant for a birthday celebration and cooking class. First, Paola (the owner) treated us (group of 8) like family. We corresponded several times over emails about our plans. She was very responsive and went out of her way to provide a meal that included fish for my husband's birthday celebration. We were late arriving for the reservation (had... More

we arrived after lunch time but luckily they were expecting a special large group so they let us in and in the most friendly and warm way possible hosted us for an amazing Toscan lunch, made of the best ingredients, fresh and local, including explanations and demonstrations. the crostini with fegatini were brilliant - delicate and not heavy, the ribollita... Locanda al Pozzo Antico is in the heart of Cortona, but you must know where it is in order to find it, however, I strongly recommend a meal at Paola's and Franco's place. They live on the first floor and they run a B&B, plus this top notch restaurant. The menu has typical Tuscan choices with a flair. Flavors are... More

This might be my 'new favorite' in this area of Tuscany - menu is delightfully balanced between traditional Tuscan rustic cuisine as well as the imaginations of the owner. The Pecorino in Fillo drizzled with honey is devine, as is the Risotto with Zucca and Broccoli. An open camino in the main dining room allows for grilling meats in the... More
