Our host at the B & B Amalie (a terrific place, by the way) said this place is rustic, but the food is excellent. I agree fully on both counts. Yep, you eat off a plastic table with a paper tablecloth right on the street. And it was terrific. Lots of people walking around, scooters whizzing by, plenty to see.... More

This is the place where I go each time I visit Palermo. The streets leading to this place (the Vucchiria Market) are a prelude to the place itself - they have the nice aspect and also the aspect of hell. At Zia Pina hell is the service - so much primitive that we consider it funny - plastic cups, plates... More

This is a point-and-we-will-cook-it place. The bill (if you are a tourist) is basically going to be a minimum €30 for two almost regardless of what actually you eat. We went twice, one day we had starters and a big plate of fish for two, the next time, no starters, one dish of pasta and one small plate of fish... More

Finally! Somewhere to get an Italian beer with your meal! You'd be surprised how difficult a task this is in Sicily, so we greatly appreciated the cold, Italian beer on offer at Zia Pina. We started with the antipasti buffet. Our non-English speaking waiter lead us out of the dining room and into the kitchen to fill our plate with... More

Wow! What a surprise to see a shabby looking place that serves the best food we had during our 2 week tour of Sicily. Go to the counter with seafood and order or point what you want to eat. I recommend swordfish, prawns, red mullet. It will be grilled for you and brought to the table when ready. Then take... More

having read other reviews mentioning hostesses....had to put my 2 cents in there are no hostesses..no wait staff....this is your basic local eatery....you fill up your plate with amazingly fresh, delicious, home made antipasti. then you pick out some amazingly fresh, delicious fish....and tell the women cooking how you would like them prepared. We had massive helpings of antipasto....then chose... More

A local Palmaterian took a friend and I to this restaurant. You serve yourself the ante pasta which largely consists of eggplant (melanzane) crumbed in all sorts of different ways as well as a capanata. There was a potato dish with anchovies and an onion dish as well as stuffed tomatoes and capsicums. In other words typical Sicilian ante pasta.... More

We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant although we were a bit bewildered by how it works. I don't think we ever got menus. You are asked what you'd like to drink and your beverage order is brought to the table, along with a basket of delicious bread. The antipasti table is inside, an extension of a table laden with all types... More

This place is a must for food lovers who don't care about pretension and want an authentic cultural experience. Grab a plastic table out on the street amongst old buildings near the Vucciria market. Go inside to help yourself at the appetizer buffet, mostly grilled and breaded vegetables. Then for your second course, go in again and point to the... More

You don't go to Zia Pina just for the meal. Rather, you undergo the whole experience of a very popular eatery in a dilapidated yet fascinating neighborhood. Zia Pina's service, is, to put it mildly, basic. But, the food can be memorable, the whole raft of antipasti is excellent, and so is the fish. And, you will be treated to... More
