Fresh food served by family members, well worth it. We had the risotto and beef pieces. Food was very good. By 8 pm the restaurant was full, mostly locals.

The food here is very good, not amazing, but definitely worth a visit. I usually order from the chef's specials. This is what I did here. I really recommend the maccheronini with pesto del sangiovese. My wife, sister-in-law, and I all agree it was the best dish we had here. My wife also really loved the tagliatelle with bolognese sauce... More

We stayed at a great B&B (Antica Residenza d'Azeglia) near here, and so we popped in for lunch. It turned out to be a great decision. Friendly atmosphere, with excellent food that was priced correctly. It was 3/4 full for lunch, and packed for dinner the next evening. The husband and wife were both comfortable with American customers although the... More

We were in Bologna for only one night, and thanks to TripAdvisor, ate here for our one meal in town. When we returned from our 10 day culinary-focused tour last week, friends asked where our best meal was. My husband and I answered in unison: Al Sangiovese! A lovely, authentic family trattoria- everything was perfect: warm service, outstanding food and... More

Hidden away on the South side of the city, is this little restaurant offering the charm of an age gone by. No fancy modern cuisine here; meat, fish, cheese, bread, pasta, risotto and wine (what's not to like!), friendly service and excellent wine (you'll struggle to spend more than €30 for a bottle without sending the waiter into the area... This small but excellent restaurant is a Bologna "must." The service is wonderfully warm and personal, and the food itself is absolutely first rate. We have eaten at several restaurants in Bologna, and Al Sangiovese is the best, hands down. When paired with the hotel Porto San Mamolo (just a few meters along the same street), it's an ideal way... Best risotto ever! Best risotto ever! Service was warm and inviting. Like being over to friends home. Reservation a MUST. Would return but they were booked the next day. Small intimate atmosphere.

A year ago we had an excellent meal at Al Sangiovese. We have never forgotten it. While planning a 2013 trip from Sweden to Umbria, we included a night in Bologna to dine there again. We emailed the restaurant to make a reservation for the following night. They were prompt in replying and confirming availability. Our dinner this year was... More

We were given a very warm welcome here and enjoyed excellent homemade pastas, tasty fillet steak in Sangiovese sause, and delicious desserts. The tiramasu was fantastic tiramasu - it was really light and was a world away from those overly rich imitations we get in the UK.

Very, very good food. The goat cheese/mushroom appetizer is one of the best things I've eaten in Italy. It's just so fresh and delicious; I wanted to lick the plate! The service was also very friendly, and I believe the owners make a few of their wines as well. Definitely come here. I may even go back while still here... More
