Great wine, good beer, and a wide selection of Bohemian and Saxon food specialties. We had the Gulasch and it was excellent!

We had a delightful lunch at Altmarktkeller. Service was very friendly and the food was wonderful. The restaurant was fairly crowded but we were seated right away. I had sauerbraten that was delightful and the house red wine was very good for the price. Would definitely go here again when in Dresden.

The idea to have a menu with saxon dishes on one side and comparable bohemian dishes on the other side is very intriguing. However the taste of the food didn't quite live up to those high expectations. We found easily places in Dresden with better prepared food. The restaurant seems to settle for average. The waiter was friendly and efficient.

If you want warming and filling then this is the place to go. I had the beef strips (Rinderstreifen) and it was tender and delicious. Forced myself to eat a pudding to be polite (I think it was Quarkkeulchen) and that was also obviously home-cooked (no defrosted catering packs here) and lovely.
