Breathtaking views over the Alster from our table were accompanied by a four course treat, with wine accompaniment. Definitely a recommendation for special occasions. Staff were helpful and friendly, and the food was delicious. The set menu cost 80 € pp, which may be steep for some budgets, but since this was a birthday/new job celebration, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Description: Le Ciel is hotel-restaurant in Hamburg. It is aptly named. To get to the restaurant you have to take a glass lift which is on outside of the hotel. The bar restaurant is stylish, casual and has a 28 metre long and 6 metre high window front overlooking the man-made Alstersee and the Hamburg skyline. Up here on the ninth floor the chef Marco Grützner serves a large assortment of international dishes and choice wines. The restaurant concept of Cuisine Mondiale was created by the well known Parisian restaurateur and 2-star chef Michel Rostang. Le Ciel offers breakfast, lunch and evening meals, and a business lunch menu that changes every day.

The service is excellent, and the waiters are working hard - The breakfast/brunch is perfect, but for dinner, you shouldn't order the steak.
We ordered two medium steaks and had two well done steaks - The price was OK - EUR 29.00 per person...
Anyway, the waters compensated with free dessert and made us forget this bad food experience.

The views and the food were excellent. As the restaurant was quite full, the few waiters did an admirable job, but there were some longer than normal waits and some confusion.

The view over the Alster from high up through the large glas front of the restaurant is hard to beat, whether during the day or at night. Seating is very comfortable, service is knowledgeable and attentive. We found the food very enjoyable, quite well designed and prepared. Altogether recommended for a nice night out.
