We enjoyed a very nice meal here on our first night in La Rochelle. Its location by the harbour made it a lovely setting but may have explained the prices! I had the special of sea bass which was perfectly cooked and with delicious accompaniments, my partner had a T-bone steak and announced it the nicest he'd had in a... More
Lunch on a lovely day right in the old port. Friendly and humorous service and very nice food. Lovely cuttlefish salad with lardons and chorizo starter - not a big salad orderer, but this was probably the best I have ever ordered. Very nice scallop main. Ms Geben had 'amazing' Gazpacho with some lovely grilled prawns and a massive, delicious... More
We had a late lunch here. I opted for the salad of red mullet, scallops and chorizo and a side of fries. My husband ordered the tuna of the specials board and his meal was great. That's the only reason I've marked it poor and not terrible. Unfortunately my fries were disgusting they were so brown they looked more like... More
We chose this restaurant due to its lovely view on the old port. Food was good, but extremely overpriced and I think if we return to La Rochelle we will choose one of the other restaurants on the port. The waiter was also very pushy (asking did we want sparkling/flat water - no we wanted a jug of tap water... More
We had what is our best meal ever in France it was as pretty as a picture and looked too nice to spoil, but needs must so we tucked in. Absolutely delicious, The deserts were to die for especially the Surprise chocolate Poire Belle Helene The staff were most attentive, friendly and nothing too much trouble for them. We will... More
Unfortunately, we didn't discover this lovely bar/restaurant until our last evening in La Rochelle, but we enjoyed a nice bottle of wine in here and the pianist was excellent, making for a very pleasant visit. If we'd known how nice it was, we would have had our evening meal here too!
On a day trip to la Rochelle we randomly chose this restaurant from the many along the harbours edge. The welcome was warm and the service prompt and efficient. There was a bit of hard sell on the daily specials, all of which were 30 euros + , but we stuck to our guns and chose the filet de raie... More
We chose La Grand Rive for lunch simply because it was away from the main restaurant street yet still looked smart and clean. The staff were friendly, welcoming and well-presented. All spoke effortless English (even though we didn't need them to!), and were happy to offer suggestions on the menu - that made it feel like personal service, even though... More
