We had 5 course of wonderfully presented, delicious French cuisine. We could not fault it, one of our gastronomic highlights of our trip through Italy and France!

Auberge du Cheval Noir is excellent! However the term Auberge is a bit misleading. For me, an Auberge (Inn) is very rustic and old-world and often dimly lit because the lights are the original first electric lights ever installed... The décor at Cheval Noir is upscale, very modern and well-lit (as opposed to being lit for romance or to hide...

After trying to get in for 2 years, we were finally able to get in on our last night in Beaune this June.
For the price, this upscale and modern French restaurant was a nice alternative to the tourist traps on Place Carnot! We chose a variety of set menus at around US 50 a piece and had an adventure....

This restaurant was recommended by the owner of the B&B we stayed at in Beaune. The food was excellent, the service was good. Beautiful decor, maybe a little to bright - but obviously very popular. Would definitely dine there again.
We have been going to this restaurant for many years and never regret returning. Friendly staff who recognise their regular clients, creative food of consistently high quality. Surprised to read the comment about disappoint desserts...I had their 'take' on a tiramisu last night that was an absolutely perfect close to a meal.
Good price quality, it isn't the cheapest restaurant in Beaune but the food is excellent and the wine's are good en payable. We are going every year back when we are visiting Beaune and the vineyards.
We went to Le Cheval Noir on a tour of Burgundy with VBT and were again surprised by the quality of the restaurant that the company selected. We had a lovely gazpacho, guinea hen (no one liked the salsify on the side but me) and a cassis tart for dessert. Really an enjoyable experience.
We both ordered the mid-priced Autumn menu and found it very disappointing. The only high point of the meal was the wine, and we had to go to the desk to ask someone to come to our table to take the wine order. The staff were dour when at the table but mostly absent.
The big disappointment was the food....

My husband and I enjoyed our meal here and had no complaints about the food. Our favorite course was the epoisse cheese. The service was not quite polished (could have used another server), but helpful. English is spoken. The decor is modern but warm, quite nice. We went to better restaurants in Beaune, but at a higher cost.
Although this wasn't our first choice (our two favorite restaurants in Beaune were fully booked), we thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Le Cheval Noir. We opted for the prix fix menu and the food was first rate and beautifully presented. Excellent first course of gambas and second course of scallops. Cheese selection was extensive. Dessert (an apple something) was good...
