Terrific small restaurant that serves delicious food. Don't be put off by the front door - it looks a little scary, but the service was cheerful and attentive and the food was tasty and filling. The haggis starter was an absolute winner with me, a first time haggis eater - go; try it.

Wonderful eatery in a beautiful and relaxed atmosphere ... great Scottish menu but save room for the Athol Brose desert! ... Must make reservations and but you will be rewarded. Highly recommend Dubh Prais (black pot) and will return on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Fabulous find, you need to book as this is a very small restaurant, they turned away several people who turned up on spec. I don't usually go for soup, we both had the broth; prawns, smoked haddock, mussels, OMG, amazing, we both could have had two bowls each. For mains I had the special of the day, medallions of steak... More

The restaurant is typically Scottish, if you can use that term, I guess. It's nothing to write home about; however it has a cosy, intimate environment and it didn't feel too crowded. The staff here are exceptional; extremely friendly and professional and work hard- a real credit to the restaurant, I'm sure. As another reviewer wrote, the food is good... More

We went here by chance on our trip up to Edinburgh last week, a tiny restaurant with about 20 seats. The food was incredibly, especially the Haggis, it is a must. The services was personable and the waiters were very knowledgeable about the local produce. This restaurant is a must if you are a foodie and find yourself in Edinburgh

We were two couples who ate her. The food is good but it's nothing extraordinary. The service is ok, but we felt a bit tricked by the waiters wine recommend which was very expensive and not particularly good wine either.

We dined here in early May and were not disappointed. The food, wine and service were impeccable. Do take heed from this and the other reviews and book in advance; we booked our Friday night table 2 weeks prior to dining and took the last available one. We started our dinner by ordering a mid priced bottle red Bordeaux (the... More

Our first night in Edinburgh and already an amazing discovery. Easy to miss, a narrow staircase tucked in between other establishments, but already when standing on top of it you can smell the delicious promise of what is happening downstairs. A small cosy room (but mostly still allowing privacy), with wonderful service throughout the night and with mouthwatering menu. Haggis... More
