We saw their advertisement while wandering the Royal Mile one afternoon and decided we would do breakfast there the next day - they had porridge on the menu & that's what hooked me! We went there around 0915 hrs and they had just opened, we were their first customers but it didn't take long for a few others - locals... More

My parents and I had a great lunch at the Royal McGregor during our quick one-day stopover in Edinburgh. We all had the two-course lunch special (8 pounds per person, 10 pounds for three courses), and every meal was fantastic. The best part was the traditional Scottish dessert of crannachan - but watch out, it packs a bit of punch... More

Another one of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. It's a small gem right in the heart of Edinburgh, the Royal Mile. You'll find lots of locals coming in for a quiet drink as well as tourists enjoying the very good food. It's not a big place so it feels quiet even when it's very busy and all the staff are... More

I went with a family group of 5 in May 2011. The food was excellent with plenty of choice. Location was excellent as on The Royal Mile. The pub was busy so I would recommend booking in advance. More

The Royal Mcgregor is an exception on the Royal Mile, in the sense that it is neither exorbitantly expensive nor too focused on luring tourists to provide a decent meal. I've eaten at the Mcgregor a few times, and can vouch for the value and quality. The Crofter's Chicken and the Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties are good items - the... More

My boyfriend and I stumbled across this restaurant whilst out exploring, and were not disappointed! We had the set menu, which was very reasonably priced. I had the soup, which was flavorsome and my boyfriend had the mackerel which he quickly demolished. Our mains soon arrived and we both loved our meals; fish and chips and a beef burger. The... More

We were looking for a place for dinner to satisfy me, my wife and three sons (21, 17, 16). The menu worked for all. The 3 course fixed price (£13.95) was an excellent value. The haggis fritters were delicious. My wife and son finished every bit of their large portions of shepherd's pie. The sticky toffee pudding was also very... More

Myself and my partner visited this restaurant yesterday and both had very different views. My partner enjoyed his meal which included the Cullen Skink and then Haggis, Neeps and Tatties and thought both were well presented and appropriately portioned. However, I was really not impressed with my meal. I had the Steak and Ale pie which did include some nice... More

Ended up here by coincidence as it is next to our hotel, but had a great full scottish breakfast - even if not everyone was convinced about the infamous haggis. Friendly service and free wi-fi. More

We were visiting Edinburgh for a weekend shopping and happened across The Royal McGregor as it was close to our hotel. I had the Cullen Skink followed by Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, my wife had Haggis Fritters with sweet chilli sauce followed by slow roast Belly Pork. The whole meal was outstanding, served very efficiently and in actual fact was... More
