You would drive passed the Waterloo Hotel on the dock road and might just think what an interesting building. Opposite the main dock entrance and the famous transporter bridge, there is little else to remind you this was formerly a bustling and affluent area. Turn round, park up and go inside - you won't be disappointed! Beautifully restored and slightly... More

I stayed at the quirky Waterloo Hotel opposite the equally quirky Newport Transporter Bridge for 2 nights. Thestaff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms large, clean and comfortable. The food was very good with a wide ranging menu. The building is an amazing example of Victoriana and has been beautifully preserved and restored by the current owners. It... More

Decided on a meal out in a restaurant that we had not revisited for nearly a year. Welcomed by a friendly lady , attentive, informative and prompt drinks service. Menu's perused, blackboard studied and some interesting fish specials offered by the owner. Once seated meals were served in a relaxed and unhurried manner on "hot" plates. Nothing was too much... This restaurant is near the docks in Newport, Its in an area that doesn't jump out at you as a foody destination. Its a little run down. As you go enter its one of those places that you can't tell if its open or not. The entrance was unmanned even though they are a Hotel as well and to the... More

amazing food, good value, nice atmosphere. We'll be back. They have a great early bird special, two courses for £10 -- well worth it.

A nice atmosphere when we visited with a mix of several large family groups and couples. We opted for the traditional beef and Yorkshire pudding and it was good, with several different vegetables served separately. Three different desserts on our table and all were very tasty. A good bottle of Merlot and we agreed it was a perfect Sunday lunch

My friend and I went here for lunch recently and we were impressed with the friendly and attentive service. Despite being the only person on duty, the waitress who served us went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed our meal. For example, when we commented that the mains we had last time were no longer on the... More

The Waterloo was built as a hotel to house the sea captains when their ships were in port and to water the sailors in what was reputed to be the longest bar in the UK. Half the bar is now gone but the bar back remains as part of the decor. The building seemed to be on a downward spiral... More
