Ambiance was great, beer fabulous and food OK (not great). I used this as my day time base whilst rambling around the henge and Silbury Hill, went away to New Inn at Winterbourne Monkton each evening, I was directed there by the pub owner initially, which I took to be Winterton Mountain, which it of course was not. I said... More

I am surprised by some of the reviews, we must have been lucky or maybe they change chefs. However, I can only say good things about this place. We visited for an early Saturday lunch, before the pub filled up so the service was quite quick, staff were friendly, the historical setting is quite fitting, overall a very nice village... More

What a shame, such a historic English village well deserving of great pub food and beers in a quaint country pub. Sadly much about what makes English food known the world over!! Whatever you want if it can be microwaved or fried - greezy style. Enjoy the Henge and stick to a beer and packet of crisps...

The four of us had lunch. My sandwich may have had a gram of meat in the ciabatta but I'm still not sure. The greens amounted to about a tablespoon with an eyedropper of dressing. Service was so so. I'd look elsewhere if I were you.

We went here on a Sunday lunchtime. It was busy. There's a nice vibe and a good selection of beers. The staff were rushed off their feet but as a pub they should be used to it right? There's a restricted menu on a Sunday - so no light bites or sandwiches which was a pain as we had to... More

It's a nice pub, a bit dated, needs a bit of TLC. It wasn't overly busy and I imagine they deal with much busier days. Mysejf, wife and kids ordered some lunch, all of which was pub standard stuff. The fish goujon sandwich was packed full of bones, glad it was mine and not one of the kids and the... More

We stayed a night in Avebury at a neighbouring B&B. We had good memories of the Red Lion from a previous visit about 15 years ago. We started outside with a a pint each of Avebury Well Water -- an excellent beer. After one more walk around the stones, we stopped in for dinner. We found the food reasonably priced,... More

Wow, I've eaten pub food before, but this was of exceptional quality. All the staff were very courteous and could not do enough to make sure we were happy with our meal. The special offer of two 8oz steaks and a bottle of red wine for £25 was great, but the choice of sauces included added a touch of class.... More

Enjoyed some lovely food here but it did take quite a time to arrive ( about 40 minutes) . It was so cold that we had to keep our coats on! Still, we were served by two delightful young ladies and the food was worth waiting for. A little bit of investment and this would be an excellent pub.

We went for lunch after visiting Avebury Manor.Place was empty when we arrived but soon filled up with many walker's.They were very short staffed but the 2 girls coped very well. We chose a seafood platter to share,it was delicious.
