For a change I didn't check the Trip Advisor listings before heading to Oxford, only searched the forums for a recommended afternoon tea and I'm actually quite grateful I didn't or else I would have completely written off The Grand Cafe. Service: A tad slow but we weren't in a rush. Staff were pleasant and smiley. Food: My stilton, walnut... More

Love this place and always try to go whenever I'm up at Oxford. In saying that, my friend pointed out how dated it is beginning to luck. The menu is a little limited (seems to specialise in cream teas and cocktails) but I guess it does what it aims to do. Service could be a little better but not so... More

From the moment we stepped into the premises out of the cold streets of oxford we were greeted with an even frostier reception! No we could not sit to await our table. No that table is for someone far more important than us. And when our food did arrive it was mouldy - I kid you not! And the staff... More

Absolutely gorgeous venue with just as gorgeous foods. BUT! The staff is absolutely awful. We sat down and weren't allowed a minute to order. We didn't get what we ordered at the same time. The worst of all is that they kept coming to our table taking stuff we weren't even done with. Eventually she took my scones which I... More

I used frequent this establishment when I lived in Oxford a few years ago. Then the food was excellent, the staff friendly, smart in appearance, the place was clean and the tables with gaps in between so people could get past. Yesterday I met up with a friend there. Oh Standards have so tumbled. We decided upon High tea, well... More

Terrible Terrible place, the staff were very rude, the waitress looked like she did not want to be there when serving me and my friend. It looks like a nice traditional establishment from the outside, but the inside is tacky. Furthermore the table we sat on was dirty and it took the waitress 5 minutes to come and clean it.... More

This location is apparently the site of England's first coffee shop, though in all that time, my own experience indicates that they have not done much customer service training in the last few hundred years. Though freinds of mine have claimed that they have had a lovely time here, I certainly never have, experiencing poor customer service, including (but not... More
