This weekend was probably my 4th or 5th visit to English's over the years and I have never been disappointed. The restaurant is very sweet and the staff friendly and knowledgable. But most of all the food and wine are just superb. If you like seafood you will love it. This time we sampled 2 white wines recommended by the... More

The wait for both courses was substantial and a glass of wine, on the house, for my wife would have made a welcome addition to the apologies. The waiter performed well but was let down by a busy kitchen.

Having been to englishs a couple of times with my partner we decided to take her uncle and aunt who were over from the states. However when we went on the Tuesday we were told that the restaurant had no crab or prawns in following the busy bank holiday - we agreed to go the following night after they had... More

Visited with husband and baby. Felt a little uneasy despite baby being exceptionally well behaved. This was more down to the intimacy of the restaurant and the fact it felt a little stuffy. Ordered scallop meunière for starter which was nice but a little gritty. My husband chose lobster bisque with croquettes which was delicious. Had crab for main and... More

Cannot remember anywhere in the world having such good oysters,we re ordered 3 times before deciding we had better try a main course. We had the Scottish ones and they where shucked as your ordered making them as fresh as they come. The staff where passionate and friendly about what they do which made the evening even more memorable in... More

English's is a very well known and popular restaurant and oyster bar, as a lover of sea food we headed straight there, we enjoyed a lovely meal and a lovely evening, the small restaurant with intimate seating, encouraged interaction with other diners who told us they travelled for miles to go there and we couldn't wait to go back. Unfortunately... More

Had a lovely meal in apparently the oldest restaurant in Brighton! Dover sole was delicious so as the oysters and champagne. Service was well presented and very professional. Great atmosphere, classical and timeless decor.

Will be returning to this restaurant! Delicious food and wine right in the middle of Brighton. Service was great and not rushed, even though we were there without a booking on a Sunday lunchtime in the middle of July. It is pricier than a lot of the restaurants in Brighton but worth every penny if you are treating yourself. Will... More

Came here with my father 50+ years ago to be given my first oyster! We went specially for oysters, & oysters we had - 9 between us, from Loch Fyne & wonderfully fresh, & reasonable size. Nice bread & butter. Then two portions of the hot mixed seafood entree - plenty for a main course - plus chips. Shared a... More
