.... because it was shut and lifeless on Saturday night 20 April, 2013. The access is down an alley which is controlled by iron railings and a gate, which was locked. We walked all around the area to see if there was another access but the whole building looked dead. Three weeks previously a booking had been made for 5... More

We found this restaurant by following the bill boards and deciding that it sounded much more interesting than a restaurant chain. We learnt subsequently that fresh fish is delivered daily from local ports. My plaice was excellent but my wife's steak was without taste. However the meal was a bit of fun. We listened to 60's pop songs, watched the... More

Another delicious lunch @ Shelley's Plaice: fresh fish sourced every day and prepared simply to your requirements.Shelley and her team will only serve whats fresh from local Brixham and Poole fishing boats each day and will not open if there is no catch of the day! A variety of fish and seafood is prepared in front of you in the... More

Fantastic food and a very quirky eating place. You're surrounded with old antique mis-matching tables and chairs, fishing nets, plastic fish and fairy lights drapping from the walls etc, but a truly cracking place to eat. Beautiful cooked and prepared fish to your liking. You can watch Shelley cooking in the kitchen and she chats to you as she cooks.... More

Chose this place because some of us like meat some did not. Not a place to go to if you do not like attitude when the food you ordered is not the way it was cooked. A very well done steak every restaurant i have been to has never had blood on the plate. It was sent back and it was... More

Shelley has very sensibly put up billboards on the main shopping street in Dorchester telling you how to find the restaurant which is in a cul de sac off the street parallet to the main street. It would be hard to find otherwise. Inside the restaurant you feel as if you are in garden shed with lots of kitsch decorations.... More

In Dorchester, looking for somewhere for lunch, we came across Shelley's Plaice and thought it would be more interesting than pizza at a nearby Italian. It was! I have since read other people's reviews and I agree that 'quirky' and 'eccentric' are good words to describe this eatery. It's like actually being in the kitchen (open along one side of... More

As a lone diner without a booking I was made most welcome, and as I ate the wonderfully cooked and fresh fish, and naughty Eton Mess, I watched the dynamic Shelley craft each dish, different herbs and sauces rubbed in and added, and then then often steamed in her special stock. Was a very pleasant 3 hours and the competency... More

It was all a bit confusing as we were looking for a good seafood restaurant in Dorchester and Billy the Fish seemed the obvious choice only it is now Sjelley's Plaice. Once we had got over this and actually found it we had a delicious good value lunch. My wife had fish soup as a main course while I had... More
