We always have a nice meal here. Recently we enjoyed a fillet steak with vegetables and chips which was all perfectly cooked. For the starter we tried the prawn cocktail which was delicious. Nice wine a nice variety. We had the sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand . Staff very friendly and the service was good.

I love the place! maybe the staff is not the best but they are really friendly! I liked a lot the scallops with the garlic butter! but the seafood plate is fantastic, you can eat monkfish, cod, scallops, prawns and calamari for a good price! fantastic place! maybe just an objection that the menu is a bit small! they dont... First visit last night for a family celebration. The staff were attentive and our mixed party of teenagers and adults all had a lovely time. The food was all served at once, for a party of 10 with varied orders no mean feat. We had the basement room which had been decorated and complimentary bubbles and sparklers for the birthday girl... We regularly eat out in Plymouth but struggle to not keep returning to the Chancel. Hence another recent visit with fabulous food, great wine and good service. The personal attention from the patrons (Paula and Jamie) is wonderful and the great benefit of independent restaurants who know how to get it right. My advice? Avoid the chains and seek out... More

Just visiting Plymouth for a few days and saw the reviews of this bistro / wine bar. We were met with a warm welcome, good service and excellent food. Wine also good and reasonably priced. Have booked again for next time we visit! Highly recommended.

I first visited The Chancel in September 2012 with a groupon I had purchased and quickly became a regular customer. Whether you are looking for a good meal, a drink from their wide selection of wines or a good place to spend a few hours this is definitely the place to go. Alone or in a group you will be... More

Celebrated my birthday with a group of friends and had a lovely evening.Very impressed with the presentation of our table which was in its own separate alcove.Lovely atmosphere.A nice touch was a birthday card from the owners.Thought the service was very attentive and the way the groups bills were all worked out separately also very helpful.A really good night out.

I often call in the Chancel for a glass of wine and sometimes a bite to eat and am always very impressed with the high standard of food. Yesterday was no exception and I tried the Salad Nicoise which easily lived up to expectations, a good helping of fresh tuna with the usual accompaniments. In my experience this is currently... More
