Chances by Chaucers today. Lovely atmosphere, helpful staff, fantastic food. Mushrooms and cranberries in stilton Wellington - superb! Beef Goulash also excellent. Would definitely go again! More

Having drawn a blank finding anywhere attractive to eat in Exeter (we were just wandering about, without any prior knowledge of what Exeter has to offer), we alighted upon The Chaucer, down a flight of steps in an atmospheric 'cellar' setting. We enjoyed a nicely cooked steak at bargain price and a good bottle of Spanish red. We left two... More

This restaurant is conveniently located in the centre of town and the pub food is good. It is a bit dark as it is underground but the atmosphere is nice, filled with young people and laughter. It is good value for money but definitely not the best in town. If you want cheapish, good food, this is the place for... More

This place offers lots of ambience and atmosphere (always busy lunch and evenings) with a great selection of food which is always of decent quality. Portion sizes are extremely generous and pricing offers excellent value for money. More

Where do I start.... Ordering I stood at the front of the order counter for over 5 minutes before I was acknowledged by the member of staff making coffee there, only for her to walk past me and serve coffee to numerous tables in the "restaurant". I was finally served after standing at the order point for about 8 minutes.... More

We went on Valentine's Day without a booking because a nearby Restaurant had mishandled our booking. As we walked in someone rang to cancel - so we were very lucky indeed. The food was excellent and we both enjoyed what we had - stake and kidney pie and mousakka. Would not go anywhere else when in Exeter! More

For a start it call's itself a restaurant which is a misnomer. When I visit a restaurant I expect table service but here you have to choose from a menu and then go to the counter to order it. Of course you have to prepay for your order which is not something I normally do in a restaurant but they... More
