If you enjoy a good cup of coffee and find yourself in Owen Sound then please go to the River Cafe. I stop there whenever I am in town and I am never disappointed.

I have met most of my new good friends at the River. Eavesdropping conversations often leads to surprising acquaintances. My book club meets here and regularly impromptu Friday and Saturday groups gather and share ideas, opinions and fashion tips. This is all presided over by Karen, the owner, who feeds and caffeinates us brilliantly.

If you had a big old espresso machine at home in your big high ceilinged kitchen, well then, it would be just like being at the River! Karen, the owner is friendly,warm and cheerful like the cafe itself. The cappuccinos are smoothly delicious and the sandwiches fillingly delightful. Home away from home.

But soft upon whetted lips lingered the delicate, yet thrilling taste of that last, steaming, cream laden mug of snickerdoodle coffee. I warm at the gentle thought. :)

Known for my brutal honesty... If you are a fan of Nanaimo Bars, you have got to go to The River Cafe! Yummy! I bought 1 square for just over 2 bucks and had it cut into 3 of the standard sized nanaimo bar sizes, which I shared with my 2 daughters. The Best, hands down, second to none, PERIOD!

River Cafe is an older, restored building inside, with exposed brick on one wall, a nice fireplace and comfortable seating at tables or in armchairs. I asked what coffee they use but the person at the cash wouldn't say! Said the business is very competitive. Excellent coffee anyways! And lovely decor in a historic building with original tin ceilings.

I walked into this lovely River Cafe quite by accident the first time. I spend my summers in Sauble Beach and had wandered over to Owen Sound.
